PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.

We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.  As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways. We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land. Thank you.

Dear Families, carers, and friends of Moorabbin PS,

World Teachers’ Day Australia

Friday 25th October World Teachers’ Day is held internationally on the 5th of October. As it usually falls during the school holidays in many parts of Australia, this year, in Victoria, World Teachers’ Day is celebrated on 25th October 2024. It is a chance to recognise and celebrate the teachers who are making, or have made, an impact in our lives.

Whether you're a current student, have children in school, or have been out of school for many years, World Teachers’ Day is a chance to say, ‘thank you’. Ian and I would like to thank our dedicated staff at MPS for the significant contribution they make towards ensuring our students experience a stimulating and challenging learning environment.

Our staff at MPS work tirelessly to prepare curriculum resources for students and to engage with students and parents to provide valuable learning opportunities and support student wellbeing. We will be holding a special morning tea for our staff today; I hope that you each have a chance to send a quick message to your child’s teacher to say thank you. I know that it’s the little kind messages and kind words of appreciation that go a long way.

PUPIL FREE DAY

A reminder that Monday, November 4th is a pupil free day with no classes on offer that day, although the services of Team Kids will be. With the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday 5th November, Week 5 will be a short affair with Wednesday, November 6 the first school day of that week.

INTENTIONS TO LEAVE If any families are intending to leave our school community and won’t be returning in 2025 because of relocation or other reason, could you please advise us as soon as possible. A phone call to the office, or an email to the school or my email account asap would be most appreciated as classes and teacher positions are being planned for and we are also recruiting.

ENROLMENTS on the same ‘numbers’ theme, whilst we think we have nearly all of our current family enrolments for 2025, if there is anyone out there who hasn’t completed the enrolment process yet, please do so asap.

Foundation teachers for 2025

I can confirm phase one of our work force plan. As soon as further numbers are confirmed in our senior year levels, I will be able to release the remainder of the schools staffing profile. We look forward to the fantastic work that this team is doing to help support our students this year and into 2025.

  • Mr Anthony Van Berkel
  • Ms Abbie Rowland
  • Ms Alyse Treloar
  • Ms Leesa Warman (Team leader)

COMPASS UPDATE

In last week’s newsletter, we announced that our school will be transitioning from QKR to Compass as our payment portal for families. We will be using the Events module to manage payments for camps, excursions, incursions and sporting events, and we will be using the Course Confirmations module to manage curriculum contributions for 2025. Please find the two relevant parent guides below:

COMPETITION TO NAME THREE CRANES

Sofia Dedes works with Icon Construction and Homes Victoria as part of the Ground Lease 2 model build at Bluff Road Hampton East.  The project will deliver 285 modern homes that are a mix of social, affordable, market rental and specialist disability accommodation.

As part of the work there, we wanted to reach out to the local primary school to see if they would be interested in taking part in a name the crane competition. This involves the school selecting names for the three cranes that will be coming to in late November.

Here are the details:

  • There will be three cranes, and you can enter more than once, but no more than three times.
  • Entries must have the child’s full name and class at the back
  • You can add in an indigenous component if you like, or a name that means something to the school or local community
  • If the names could be no longer than 12 letters and if we could have them by 15th November sent to the school office.
  • Entries must be legible, neat and follow the guidelines above.
