Junior School Round Square Day 2024
Kinross Wolaroi is proud to be a Round Square School. Round Square schools share a commitment to character education and experiential learning built around six themes – our IDEALS – International understanding, Democracy, Environmental stewardship, Adventure, Leadership and Service. This year the Junior School has used the Round Square IDEALS as its framework for Year 6 Leadership experiences, including fundraising, student events, and service learning.
The Junior School was excited to host its second Round Square Day on Wednesday 25 September 2024. Year 6 planned activities for all year groups. Three of these events were run in periods 3 and 4 and the last activity was held at lunchtime. Year 5 students assisted our Year 6 organisers, as they prepare to begin their leadership journey in the Junior School Round Square program.
The activities were:
Pre-Kinder & Kindergarten: Main Oval Adventure organised by Gordon House
Years 1 & 2: Ninja Warrior Course organised by Douglas House
Years 3 & 4: KWS Amazing Race organised by Brown House
Pre-Kinder - Year 6: Multicultural Food Stalls organised by McLachlan House A BBQ lunch will be provided for all students during our usual lunchtime, with a special plan by McLachlan House for “lunch dessert”.
It was wonderful to see the growth in our Year 6 students, as they organized and led the activities. A huge thank you to the teachers who guided and supported the Year 6 students – Miss Hamblin with the Amazing Race, Ms Anderson with the Main Oval Adventure, Mr Whitehead, Mrs Bennett and Mrs Barrett with the Multicultural Food Stalls. Thank you to all the teachers who supported our Year 6 leaders and assisted with running the activities. It was great to see the younger students engaged and having fun on their different Round Square adventures.
The Multicultural Food Stalls were bigger and better than last year, and I think it’s fair to say that every student enjoyed a delicious meal and had plenty of food! We had dishes from a range of countries including India, Sweden, Ireland, Samoa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, New Zealand, Netherlands, Tonga, Italy and more. It was also wonderful to see more families attending to share their delicious, cultural dishes with the school community.
A special thank you to Mrs Church for overseeing the cooking of the BBQ and ensuring the sausage sandwiches were ready for students at the end of their activities.
The Junior School Round Square Day really is a team effort, and it could not have happened or been so successful without the work of Ms Anderson, the School’s Round Square Coordinator. Through Ms Anderson we have been able to tap into the Senior School students and resources. Senior School students and GAP Staff assisted with running activities and cooking the BBQ, small but vital roles in the success of the day.
Junior School Round Square Day 2024 was a great adventure for all of the students and we look forward to developing these types of experiences on our school’s Round Square journey.

Term 3 2024 Technology Showcase
On Thursday 26 September the Junior School held its Term 3 Technology Showcase.
Work that was featured:
- Pre-Kinder demonstrated some of the digital technology projects they have worked on, including a SeeSaw activity, Beebots, and Ozobots.
- Kindergarten shared their 3D Waterparks created in Minecraft as part of their Geography unit.
- Year 1 premiered their Stop Motion Animation movies retelling one of their InitiaLit storybooks from this year.
- Year 2 devised an Oceania Cruise and presented their multimedia project, including their Ozobot cruise ship, Canva poster and iMovie advertisement to demonstrate their knowledge about Australia's neighbours.
- Year 3 participated in the Solar Buddy project and will shared their solar lights and a Canva poster outlining the project.
There was a great “vibe” in the Glasshouse space as parents and students moved through the different areas and the children demonstrated their digital technology skills and shared their projects. The easiest demonstration and most popular seemed to be the iPad on the CommBox!
Everyone just loves seeing themselves on a big screen.
