Hamilton Excursion

On Wednesday 25 September, students from Year 10-12 Drama, Year 10 History Elective, and Year 12 History Extension (2024 & 2025 cohort) attended a special schools’ performance of Hamilton at the Lyric Theatre in Sydney. This unforgettable experience not only showcased the revolutionary story of Alexander Hamilton but also included an exclusive Q&A session with the cast and crew, giving students the chance to delve deeper into both the historical and theatrical aspects of the production.

For Drama students, the performance offered a masterclass in musical theatre, highlighting the blend of acting, singing, and choreography that drives the narrative. Key discussions in the Q&A explored how the actors interpreted their roles, the creative process behind their performances, and the importance of audience engagement in live theatre.

History students gained unique insights into the concept of historiography—how history is written and remembered. Hamilton brings to life the early years of the United States through the lens of Lin-Manuel Miranda's creative storytelling, emphasizing the importance of whose voices are represented in historical narratives. The musical reimagines these historical figures with a modern, diverse cast, prompting critical discussions on how history can be adapted to reflect contemporary values and social issues.

This excursion allowed students to see the intersection of art, history, and culture firsthand, giving them fresh perspectives on performance and historiography.

Year 9 English Scholars

Year 9 English Scholars students Nethuli Pathirana, April Englund, Georgia Phillipe, Chaitra Avirneni, Fraser Johnstone and Thomas Nelson, along with Mrs Keir, visited the Archibald Prize Exhibit at the Orange Regional Art Gallery on Tuesday, October 15. The students were awed by the quality of the artworks, and the depth of meaning created by the artists. They were able to use these portraits to craft life writing responses, exploring the real, and imagined lives of the subjects. It was a highly enjoyable and meaningful opportunity for our Scholars students.
