All Year 11 students have now had the opportunity to attend the P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth) program at St John of God Midland.
The day involved learning about the risk with drugs and alcohol, as well as listening to two guest speakers. One guest speaker was a brain injury survivor, and the other guest speaker was a spinal injury survivor. There stories were very personal, and they spoke straight from their heart.
Students also visited the emergency department where they role played an emergency scenario. They also visited the ICU where the equipment was explained in detail. The day finished with an interactive physio session.
This week your child will be given a 'Contract for Life'. This contract is between people who care about each other. A teenager and a parent, guardian, or trusted adult. This contract is for both parties to agree to call for advice and/or transportation at any hour, from any place, in any situation, where they feel uncomfortable or unsafe, or have been drinking, or otherwise impaired, or with a friend or date who is in a similar condition.
