Over the course of this year we have emphasised with our students that our College is designed to replicate a work environment, and as such, we often find ourselves having conversations with students around navigating the transition into adulthood as much as we do the need to complete homework.

For this reason, at the assembly this week, we had Senior Constable Dan Byrne from Cunderdin Police Station presenting to the students around social media safety, and more specifically, the changes in law they will come under as they turn 18. It is hoped that the more our students are educated in these matters, the better protected they will be as adults.

In addition to this presentation, our Year 11 students have been preparing for adulthood by attending the P.A.R.T.Y. program which helps them to learn about trauma and injury, and see first-hand the impact poor decision making can have on people’s lives. They have also been completing their Provide First Aid qualification, giving them the skills to confidently manage emergency situations and provide a first aid response to a casualty.

Speaking of stepping into adulthood, our Year 12 students return next week for the final time as we host our Valedictory Ceremony. I am looking forward to seeing all of the Year 12s and wishing them well as they officially complete their schooling journey and enter the next chapter of their lives.

This week I want to recognise all of our staff for their efforts across the College to assist our students in achieving success. There are many days allocated throughout the year to acknowledge different professions, but here at WACoA - Cunderdin we realise that it takes all of our staff to make our College the successful institution that it is. As a two-time finalist for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (secondary) in the WA Education Awards, and the 2023 WA Small Training Provider of the Year, it is obvious that we have hard-working, dedicated staff across the campus, and I want to thank them for everything they do.
