F/1/2 CLASSROOM
The F/1/2 class have had an amazing two weeks of learning.
Throughout this term, the students have been engaging in learning about measurement (length and weight) through the investigation of Mrs Parry’s pregnancy. This investigation kicked off on the first day of term when the students put together puzzles to discover the secret that Mrs Parry had been keeping. Since then, each Tuesday’s Maths lesson has incorporated investigating, measuring ribbon, and weighing sand to identify how long and heavy a baby is during pregnancy. The students have been enjoying comparing the lengths and being able to physically feel how heavy the weights are.
In Maths, the students have also been focusing on time. Students are developing their knowledge about the order of days of the week, months of the year (and how long each month is), and reading time to the quarter hour on an analogue clock.
In English, we have started looking at non-fiction texts, in particular information texts. We have been learning about the features of these kinds of texts and developing our understanding that their purpose is ‘to inform’.
In the coming weeks, we have a lot of learning and events planned.
Wednesday 30th October: Auslan with Tim.
Thursday 31st October: No Respectful Relationships.
Monday 4th November: Pupil Free Day – No students at school.
Tuesday 5th November: Melbourne Cup Public Holiday – No students at school.
Friday 8th November: Transition Prep at school until end of 1st break.
Next week in Maths, we will be finishing our telling time unit and be moving into our measurement unit. In this unit, students will focus on learning about measuring and comparing length, weight, and capacity using informal units of measurement.
Transition Foundation
Last Friday, we held our first official Transition session for our 2025 Foundation students.
They had an amazing morning filled with Investigations with the F/1/1 class followed by Art with Mrs. Jamieson. They listed to a story called "Wombat Stew" and created their own Wombat Stew using lots of different art & craft materials. Lots of creativity shown!
They also started their "Transition Passports", which will document their transition journey at St Mary's.
We look forward to welcoming back the 2025 Foundation students next week for more Investigations and Science.
