Division Athletics
Twenty-two students represented CSPS at the Kingston Division Athletics Carnival. All are to be congratulated on doing their best and it was great to hear many students who did some training on the holidays and/or after school, some even borrowing a discus, or a shot put from school.
Adele from year 4 was our ribbon winner on the day. Coming third in both the shot put and discus. Well done Adele!
Melbourne Marathon Festival
Congratulations to all CSPS community members who took part in the Melbourne Marathon Festival last Sunday.
“I did the 5km. I was a bit nervous at the start but when I started to run I felt it was fun because I had never run in the city. There were lots of people and I was nearly squashed. It was my second time on the MCG. Last time I danced on the MCG at the grand final when KISS were playing.” Haruma Y3
“I did the 5km. It was my 3rd time. I like doing it. I ran most of the way but I did walk some bits. My favourite part is running into the MCG. It was really loud. The music was turned right up!” Maddox Y3
“I did the 5km and I had fun. I ran with my friend. It was a little bit hard. I enjoyed running into the MCG! At the finish I got a medal.” Mari Y3
“When we started it was very exciting. It was my first time and there was lots of cheering. At half way I saw lots of people with signs and some of them were funny like – I trained months to hold this sign! At the end the MCG was loud with music and excitement. I ran in the 10km with my Dad.” Noah T Y4
“Lots of people were screaming encouragement and holding up signs. I was trying for a steady pace but my brain wanted to stop. Everyone’s encouragement kept me going. I ran the whole way apart from when my shoelace came undone. I was happy at the end and felt I worked hard for my medal.” Noah J Y4
“I started slow on purpose because I didn’t want to get lost in the crowd. I was running with my Dad. At the end of the Yarra there were lots of people holding signs and cheering us on. I liked it! After 3km I had a little water break and then we sped up and I was super excited about finishing in the MCG and waiting to receive my medal.” Levi S Y2
Victorian Institute of Sport
A number of CSPS families took the opportunity to visit the Victorian Institute of Sport during the school holidays on their annual open day. Thank you to Harley and Rafael from Year 5 for submitting a recount of their day.
‘On Wednesday the 2nd of October, we went to the Victoria Institute of Sport open day. We got to meet lots of Olympians and Paralympians. We met Jemima Montag who had her Olympic medal with her. We also tried some sports we hadn’t played before. I particularly liked softball, hokey and wheelchair basketball. I was proud of my efforts with the Paralympic ‘shotput’ in which we threw a vortex toy as far as we could while strapped to a seat.’ - Harley I 5A
Last Wednesday, my Dad and I went to Albert Park for VIS (Victorian Institute of Sport) open day. It was a great event overall and we had awesome fun. We saw how Olympic and Paralympic athletes train and we got to use state of the art facilities while trying out all sorts of sports kids like me see in the Olympics and Paralympics e.g gymnastics, skateboarding, wheelchair basketball etc. Closer to the end of the day, we watched an Olympic and Paralympic parade which was an unofficial welcome home for the athletes. It was amazing to be able to collect signatures and touch medals of some of the athletes. I would highly recommend going next year! - Rafi 5B :)
