Devotion

All of us face choices every single day. Some of them are pretty benign; “Should I eat an apple or a banana?” “Which route should I take to work?”.

Some choices are more moral; “Everybody here is badmouthing another parent; do I join in or call it out and ask them to stop?” “Should I buy another toy just to keep up with my mates?”.

In Chapel this week we looked at Jesus' temptation in the wilderness in Matthew 4.1-12; three times where the bad angel Satan tried to tempt Jesus with something that seemed perfectly good and reasonable, but was wrong.

If Jesus does what the Slanderer asks - even if they are seemingly good things - he is then living by a word that is not coming 'out of the mouth of God' (Scripture). He’s not following God faithfully, he’s following himself or what the evil one wants.

What we worked out together in Chapel was that when the voice in our head tempts us with something that is selfish, cruel, or hurtful, do what Jesus modelled for us by saying:

“Beat it Satan”

“Get lost bad thoughts”

“I Follow Jesus”
