The Year 8 students have been researching ‘Pharaohs’. The inspiration was derived from the current blockbuster exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. The students explored their favourite ‘Pharaoh’, they documented the research in their Visual Arts Journal – they made sketches of the Pharaoh, highlighting significant characteristics, as well as discovered what vital roles they had in Ancient Egypt. One group of students used coloured paper, ‘collage’ technique to represent their Pharaoh, and the other group used a traditional method of relief sculpture, to make their Pharaoh bust using white earthenware clay.
The Exhibition of the art works is due to go on display in the following week.
The year 11 and 12 art students have been frantically working on the completion of their folios. Concepts and ideas, including materials. Techniques and processes have been documented in their Visual Arts Journal.
The year 11 students have been heavily involved in the experimentation of textiles – fabrics, wool, mixed media materials to create garments and works on canvas, whereas the year 12 students have been exploring ceramics – earthenware clay and cesco glazes.
The range of artworks present richness in texture, pattern, colour and form. Exotic marine forms, sculptural hands and eyes are amongst the fascinating folio works.
The VCE students are now working on refining the presentation and display, as well as didactic information for their final artworks.
Grad 5 and 6 Taster-day proved successful in the designing of terracotta garden pots. Beautiful floral and figurative designs by the primary children decorated the surface of the pots. The students were so excited to take their pot home, some ready to use it for planting, others to decorate their home. The Westall students worked tirelessly to assist the primary students with preparing paints, colour schemes and of course cleaning up.
The LAD students have been working on ongoing projects around the great grounds of Westall Secondary College, these include interior wall murals, maintenance of garden beds, Balook - garden posts, with fruit and vine theme, and the ‘Breslin’ garden mural lining the Senior Learning Centre walk way.
