CLEVER CLASS
On Wednesday 24th September, Prep Bluegum headed out on an excursion to support our Science unit on materials and their properties. As part of our current learning, students have been exploring how different objects are made from a range of materials, and how we can describe these based on what we can observe.
Our first stop for the day was the Mornington Park Waste Transfer Station. Here, students learned about how different types of waste are separated depending on the material they’re made from—like plastic, glass, metal, and organic matter. This gave us a chance to see how understanding materials helps with recycling and sorting in the real world.
After that, we visited Bunnings Mornington, where students were taken on a guided tour of the store. They explored a variety of materials used in everyday building and gardening, and discussed why certain materials are chosen based on their properties—such as how strong they are, how they feel, or how long they last.
We finished the day with a picnic lunch and a play at Bellerive Beach Park. It was a lovely way to relax after a busy and interesting day of learning.
Thanks to all the staff and helpers who supported the excursion—it was a great experience for our Prep students.
