School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

Building Strong Routines for Successful Learning
How Classroom Procedures Support SWPBS at Wonga Park Primary School
At our school, we believe every child deserves a learning environment where they feel confident, organised, and ready to succeed. One important way we support this is through the explicit teaching of classroom procedures, the clear steps for how we do things each day.
Procedures help students develop strong routines so that tasks are completed smoothly and efficiently. When children understand what to do and what is expected, they can focus more on learning and less on uncertainty. These routines not only support classroom organisation, they help every student feel successful and valued.
Some of the key procedures we practise include:
- responding to the teacher's attention signal
- entering and exiting the classroom safely
- moving through transitions calmly and quickly
- lining up respectfully
- asking for teacher assistance appropriately
- handing out and collecting materials responsibly
- greeting visitors politely.
Our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework guides us to teach behaviour and routines with the same care and purpose as academic skills. Procedures work hand-in-hand with our school expectations:
Be Kind - clear processes promote respect and positive interactions.
Be Safe - routines keep students physically and emotionally safe.
Be a Learner - students are actively prepared to engage in learning.
When procedures are taught consistently and praised often, students build independence, confidence, and strong learning habits that last well beyond the classroom.
This week, we encourage families to take a moment to review the poster below and chat with your child about our school transition expectations. When we share conversations about what these behaviours look like at school and at home, we build a strong, united message that supports positive choices every day.
Thank you for encouraging your children to follow our school expectations and routines.
