Week 4, Term 4

Performing Arts

🎄🎅🏼🎁🎶

It’s hard to believe, but it will be beginning to sound a lot like Christmas in the Performing Arts room soon! This week, alongside the learning below, some classes are starting to learn their carols and get into the festive spirit. Families will receive more information about our end-of-year event in the coming weeks so please keep an eye out for this. The carols event will take place on Wednesday December the 3rd in the late afternoon/evening.

PREP

Students are continuing to explore dance through the element of space. They will experiment with moving at different levels, in a variety of directions, and along pathways, discovering how they can use the space around them in expressive ways. Students will also be introduced to time and rhythm through movement activities.

GRADE 1/2

Students are beginning a new focus on dance. They will learn how dance communicates ideas and feelings by exploring well-known dance crazes from different times. Through these activities, they will continue to develop confidence, coordination, and safe dance practices while experiencing dance as both performers and audiences.

GRADE 3/4

In drama, students will practise games that challenge them to stay focused, build confidence, and express ideas with both their voices and bodies. They will either present their collaborative news report performance or explore characterisation further by developing and performing a role from a short script.

GRADE 5

Students are continuing their work on the ukulele. After revising the C, A minor and F chords, they will begin to put chords together into short songs. This week, they will also learn the G and G7 chords, which require three fingers on the fretboard, and practise moving between the chords they have learnt to accompany simple pieces.

GRADE 6

Students are now beginning to put their creative projects into action. After developing and pitching their ideas, they are starting to rehearse, compose, or design their work. They will continue building towards a final showcase of their Performing Arts skills later in the term.

Physical Education

Regional Athletics Success

A huge congratulations to Charlyze (Year 4) and Victoria (Year 5), who proudly represented our school at the Regional Athletics Competition last week. Both students displayed outstanding sportsmanship, determination, and a positive attitude — wonderful ambassadors for our school community.

Victoria placed 4th in the 1500m race, and Charlyze achieved an impressive 3rd place in Shot Put. What a fantastic effort from both girls — congratulations on your achievements!

Prep

This week, our Prep students will continue to strengthen their catching skills as they gain more confidence and control. Activities will challenge students to catch with increasing accuracy, including catching while moving and reacting to different speeds and directions. Partner and small group games will encourage teamwork, turn-taking, and focus. Students will also begin to explore combining catching with throwing activities, helping them develop coordination and readiness for more complex games later in the year.

Grades 1 & 2

Our Year 1 and 2 students will continue working on their soccer skills, with an emphasis on improving accuracy and consistency in passing and striking. This week’s lessons will include fun skill stations and mini-games where students practise moving into space to receive the ball, passing under pressure, and aiming for specific targets. We’ll also introduce small team challenges to help students develop greater awareness of positioning and teamwork while keeping the focus on enjoyment, effort, and fair play.

Grades 3 & 4

This week, our Year 3 and 4 students will build on their understanding of soccer gameplay, applying their dribbling, passing, and striking skills in more competitive, game-like situations. Lessons will focus on maintaining possession, finding open space, and making smart passes under pressure. Students will also be encouraged to think tactically — when to pass, when to dribble, and how to support teammates effectively. Through these activities, they’ll continue to strengthen their game sense, decision-making, and confidence on the field.

Grades 5 & 6

Our Year 5 and 6 students will extend their learning in European Handball, focusing on refining their passing accuracy, shooting technique, and defensive positioning. This week, they’ll take part in more structured games where they’ll apply strategies such as moving into space, marking opponents, and creating scoring opportunities. Students will also take on leadership roles by helping to organise drills or manage gameplay, building their confidence, teamwork, and understanding of fair competition.

Visual Arts

This week in Art, all classes will be providing feedback to another student’s artwork from the Art Show.

They will also participate in a reflection of their own work and their achievements from the year.

If you didn't get a chance to visit the Art Show last Friday night at the 130th Birthday Celebration, or would like to return for another visit, it will be open for visitors today (Monday) and tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon from 3.30-4.30pm only.

Please feel free to wander down to the BER to see your child's work on display.

Over the coming weeks we will be dismantling the art show and sending all the work home with students.

Thankyou to all the amazing parents, teachers and students that helped put the Art Show together! It would not have been possible without you.

A special mention to the Art Captains and the following Grade 5/6 students who gave up many break times to cut, stick and display artwork:
