Week 4, Term 4

CBL

Students will continue investigating the environment and climate of their chosen African country. Ask your child to share their Keynote presentation with you and discuss what they have written and discovered so far.


Reading

On the morning of Monday 27th October, we will be watching Kensuke’s Kingdom and comparing the movie to the book. Students will explore what changes filmmakers make and why. They will then complete book reviews, critiquing the written text before beginning to read non-fiction texts about Africa, Australia, and South America—linking to our CBL learning. Ask your child to share their thoughts about the book versus the movie.


Writing

We are beginning our focus on poetry, we will look at cinquain poetry with a grammar focus on figurative language, you could ask your child to share their poems with you.


Maths

We will continue our focus on time, followed by fraction revision and exploring equivalent fractions. Grade 3 students will consolidate their understanding of fractions with Grade 4 students will then moving into decimals and investigating the links between fractions, decimals, and percentages. 

 

To support your child at home:

  • Practice telling the time on analogue and digital clocks.
  • Discuss fractions in everyday contexts (like cooking).
  • Continue practising multiplication facts. Grade 3 students are expected to know their 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10 times tables, while Grade 4 students should know all facts up to 10×10.
