Ā

This week, students will be reading Give Bees a Chance by Bethany Barton. This engaging picture book uses humour, facts, and persuasive techniques to encourage readers to see the importance of bees and why we should care for them. Building on last week’s learning, students will explore how the author uses persuasive writing techniques such as emotive language, strong arguments, and facts, to share a clear point of view.

Ā

What can you do at home?

  • Nessy is a great literacy resource to use that supplements your child's reading in a fun engaging way on their iPad
  • Have your children try to convince you of something using the persuasive techniques we have learntĀ
  • Have your child ask you questions about the books that they are reading.
  • Before reading a book, have your child make predictions about the story line

🧮 Maths:

Grade One Students:Ā

This week, Grade One students will be consolidating place value. They will be reading and writing two-digit numbers in both words and numerals, identifying and matching numbers represented in different ways, and learning to partition numbers in multiple ways. Students will also use partitioning to solve problems and investigate different skip counting patterns to reach target numbers. Throughout the week, they’ll practise skip counting by twos, fives and tens, and identify one more and one less from different starting points.

Ā

What can you do at home?

  • Practise skip counting together by 2s, 5s and 10s — try counting while walking up stairs, bouncing a ball, or setting the table.
  • Look for two-digit numbers around the house or in the community (on letterboxes, clocks, or price tags) and read them aloud.
  • Play a game of ā€œone more, one lessā€ — say a two-digit number and have your child tell you what comes before or after it.

Ā

Grade Two Students:Ā

This week, Grade Two students will continue to explore fractions. They will explore the concept of symmetry and be introduced to equivalent fractions e.g. one half is the same as two quarters.Ā

Ā

What can you do at home?

  • Look for shapes or objects around your home that can be divided into halves, Ā quarters or eighths.Ā

šŸŒ CBL:
