Term 3

Foundation students spent time practising their jumping, leaping, hopping and dodging during various games and activities. They were also introduced to basic gymnastics, with the focus on learning how to control their bodies. This involved moving like different animals, holding themselves still in various static positions, and using their bodies to make different letters of the alphabet.

Students in Years 1 – 6 completed units on tennis and orienteering in Term 3.

In the tennis unit students practised how to hold and swing the racquet correctly, different ways of hitting the ball (forehand, backhand, slice) were introduced to the basic rules and strategies of how to play tennis and finished by playing a game of real tennis (including umpiring their own games).

During the orienteering unit students were required to learn about directions (north, south, east and west) and use this information to follow directions or read a map to achieve various goals. These included making a giant compass in the hall and racing each other to go to the various points on the compass and completing a course of various coloured cones using a map. The final stage was a real orienteering course, where students had to use a professional orienteering map of the school to find a number of markers and complete the course in the fastest time possible.

Term 4

The focus for all students in Term 4 is Athletics. Each week they will focus on a different event and have a chance to be timed or measured for each. F – 2 students are introduced to the events using modified equipment, and Year 3 – 6 students results will help determine who is selected for the Athletics team next year, as well as giving an overview of each student’s speed, strength and agility.

Tomorrow, Friday 17th October, ARPS will be hosting the district inter-school sport finals.

Games will be played from 11:30am - 1:00pm:

  • Volleystars will be playing in the Hall

  • Hot Shots Tennis will be playing on the Senior Basketball Court

Families are invited to come along and support these Year 6 students.

After-school Parents Table Tennis

In Term 4 we will be starting an after-school table tennis club where parents and students will be able to play on the three outdoor table tennis tables from 3.30pm to 4pm Monday to Friday.

Mr Keleher will provide quality bats and balls for parents and student to use, as well as offer assistance for any parents or students who may be new to the game.

It would be great to see parents and students playing, and depending on the success of the program, we may even organise a tournament where parents and/or students could compete against each other.

We look forward to seeing you on the tables.
