Division Finals

Many of the students participated in either Division Basketball or Athletics over the past two weeks.  There were some nail biting competition.  Congratulations to our boys basketball team for making it to the GF on the day.  Congratulations also goes to Xavier, Rose, Grace and Tristan who progressed to the Eastern finals for athletics this Thursday.  We wish them all the best.

We wish our volleyball and tennis teams that participate in their next round of matches on Wednesday and Friday and thanks to Monica De Leo and Josh Crowe for coaching these teams.

Some insights from the students that attended our athletics and basketball events

Athletics:

We were thrilled to see so many students step up to try new events, support one another, and represent their school with pride. Whether or not they made it through to the next stage, everyone gave it their best and achieved some fantastic results, Thank you for giving it your best shot and representing St James. - Rose

On Tuesday the 14th of October, many students proudly represented our school at Division Athletics. On this day, we had an awesome time trying our very best to give it our best shot. Some of the students that have made it through to the Eastern Region Finals are Rose 100m 200m, Grace 80m Hurdles, Xavier 800m, 1500m and Tristan High Jump. - Willow

Basketball:

On the Friday the 10th of October, the two year six basketball teams went to Nunawading to compete against other schools. As soon as we got there the boys team had a game to play. The boys won by 12 points but the girls fell short in a close game. Although they lost, they fought with pride and stayed in the game. The next few games for the girls were still quite tough losing the next 2. But we still had hope for the boys team that played amazingly although falling short in the grand final meaning they didn't go to regionals. Overall it was a fun day filled with team spirit and sportsmanship. Everybody had a great time shooting goals and winning games. We cannot wait for the next basketball day. - Maddie and Amelia

On Friday some year 6s and a few year 5s went to Nunawading Basketball Centre to compete in Division Basketball Day. It was an amazing experience and I really enjoyed playing basketball with my friends. We won our first match against Laburnum 30-21 and played amazing. In our second match it was a thrilling game that we won by 3 points 26-23. Our team played with great teamwork. In our final match we played against Beverly Hills, a grand final rematch from District, the winner would become undefeated. We played hard and won by around 16. We finished top of the table and in the Grand Final we came up against Beverly Hills again. We gave it our all but ended up sadly losing by about 10. We ended up missing out on regionals but we were very proud of our amazing teamwork and awesome efforts. A big thank you to everyone who made this day possible. - Spencer

2026 Planning

Planning for the 2026 calendar is well and truly underway and I will add more dates before the end of term.  First District event will be Swimming.  We will have swimming trials on Wednesday 11th February.  If your child will be year 3 next year and will turn 9 by the end of 2026 and can safely swim 50m, then they are welcome to come to our trials morning for the District team.  More information and to sign up for the day can be found at this link here

Fixtures and additional information on operoo permission forms

It has been brought to our attention that when I add additional information on operoo, like fixtures, after I have sent the operoo out (as usually these are not ready at the time I am sending permissions forms to you), that you are not seeing this information at your end.

I have contacted Operoo (and a parent had already realised this, thank you Belinda) that

to see the updated information you will need to go to CHANGE RESPONSE and resubmit your response in the eform.  Once you have done that, all changes I have made will appear as you will have the most updated version of the form.

I always add fixtures and information as it comes to me in your permission forms and will try and send out a message if I have added new information. However, if time gets away from me, which it usually does, if you do this, I highly recommend you do this on the event day or a couple of days prior, then you should see the information you are looking for.  If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Basketball Tops

Please, if you haven't already, have your students return their washed basketball tops to the PE office this week to ensure we have full sets for next year.

Twilight Sports - Thursday 6th November

More information will be included in the next newsletter but this year will be an evening event to conclude by 7pm.

Stay safe, keep active
