Spotlight on Learning

Stage 1

1P have had a busy term this term and have enjoyed learning many different things.

1P have been learning to tell the time and enjoying the challenge of quarter to and quarter past and writing the corresponding digital time such at 3:45. 1P enjoy all the maths we do including fractions, patterns and addition and subtraction.

Reading time in 1P is very special as they read together and share InitiaLit books daily in groups, with partners and individually.

Art is definitely one of our highlights in 1P as we have been learning to draw and then paint or colour using an outline of black to go over the pencil drawing. Our Tiger artworks in the jungle and our Giraffes that Dance were two artworks this term that we particularly enjoyed.

We have loved studying books as a class and looking at the language in the books and using this to assist with our own writing. We have looked at descriptive language and noun groups. Some books we have enjoyed include Giraffes Can't Dance and Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge.

1P have loved Ultimate Frisbee and also the cricket clinic this term as they have developed their sporting skills.

Kindergarten and Year 1 have especially enjoyed singing time with Mrs B and Mrs Clements where their repertoire now includes : There's a Possum in the House, Give me a Home Among the Gumtrees, Do a Deer and Do Your Ears Hang Low.

Stage 2

The students of 3S are dedicated to their journey towards becoming confident mathematicians and skilled readers and writers. In Week 9, they engaged in an exploration of 3D objects, focusing on the properties of prisms and pyramids. This involved a detailed analysis of the similarities and differences between these geometric objects. Additionally, students delved into the concept of net shapes, creating their own representations to solidify their understanding of the relationship between net shapes and 3D objects.

In the realm of reading, our students acquired valuable skills for efficiently navigating non-fiction texts. They learned how to effectively utilise text features such as subheadings, captions, labels, bold words, glossaries, and tables of contents to locate specific information within different nonfiction texts. Working collaboratively, they matched definitions to the respective text features and practiced identifying them within actual texts. This newfound skill empowers our students to effortlessly locate the information they seek when conducting research.

In the domain of writing, students embarked on a creative journey by experimenting with figurative language to captivate and engage readers. Drawing inspiration from iconic scenes in beloved Disney movies like Mulan, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast, students employed similes and metaphors to vividly describe these cinematic moments. This immersive and enjoyable learning experience in 3S continues to foster growth and creativity among our students.

Stage 3

Term 3 has been great in K-6P Support Class

Having focused on writing Informative texts in Term 3, one topic we’ve been interested to learn a lot more about has been bees.

As well as revising how to gather factual information and present it in an interesting way, we’ve learnt many fascinating facts ourselves.

Did you know there are many ways we can help protect bees?

You can even build your own Native Bee House in your backyard!

Also recently, Mondana went to Year 5/6 Camp and had a fantastic time!

We always love dressing up for the Bookweek Parade.

Of course, we take great care making Father’s Day cards & buying something our Dads will love at the stall!
