Community forum – school upgrade masterplan

Next Tuesday, 17th October, the Masterplan and Grounds committee are hosting a community forum on the development of the new masterplan for the school upgrade. In May we received a letter from then Education Minister, Natalie Hutchins, confirming that the school would receive funding to begin planning and design work for the election commitment project of $17.6 million to “modernise your school, including a two-storey community hub and prep-Year 1 learning centre along with upgrades to the library and main building.” Architects AOA Christopher Peck have been appointed to develop the new masterplan and we will be meeting with them regularly throughout the design and construction process.

In this forum we will be able to outline the process and share the background work that has gone into getting us to this point. It is also an opportunity for our community to have input into the design. AOA will not be at this forum, however they will present the masterplan when developed at another forum later in the year.

The forum will be held in the Babajen at 7.30pm, Tuesday 17th October.

Facilities update

Construction of the new toilets is progressing slowly with demolition of the old toilets completed over the school holidays. The temporary toilets haven’t been ideal, but it will be worth the wait when the new toilets are finished around the middle of November.

Over the school holidays we had the front foyer and corridor area painted which has lifted the feel of the school as you enter. Selected pieces of artwork will be hung in the corridor, including an interactive mural created by year 5/6 students last term as the culmination piece of their term theme. This will be unveiled in the weeks ahead.

Referendum

We know this is an uncertain time that is bringing up a lot of emotion for many members in our community, particularly our First Nations families. We’re thinking of you as you go into this weekend, whatever the outcome of the referendum.
