4E

During Term 3 Literacy, our curious learners in 4E have explored two exciting text types, Explanation Texts and Biographies. Through the process of deep diving into these genres, learners have built up strong research abilities by using credible sources of information and put their writers’ voices into their writing pieces by paraphrasing information to communicate their intended meaning.

In Explanation Texts, we focused on how things work and why things happen. Learners chose a topic that they found interesting, and underwent a careful process of planning, researching, drafting and publishing through both written and visual formats. Popular topics in the class included how rainbows form, why black holes occur and how volcanoes happen.

In Biographies, learners had the opportunity to find out more about people that were fascinating and inspiring to them. 4E utilised their research skills to source relevant information about their person and organised this research into logical paragraphs. Learners also engaged in a game of Guess Who by reading out the introduction to their biographies, so peers could guess who they were writing about. This helped us to determine whether our information was relevant and to learn about different inspiring people. Biography topics in 4E included Stephen Curry, Sam Kerr, Stephen Hawking, Albert Einstein and Galileo!
