Year 10 English

Early in Term 4, Year 10 students went on an excursion to watch the ‘Barbie’ film at Eastland. Students have since been discussing and writing about the film, with a focus on how writer and director Greta Gerwig has used characters, dialogue and events to express particular views and values. The quality of students’ discussion and writing has been excellent! This unit is designed to support students in their ability to analyse and write personal responses to texts, as these are important skills in both VCE English and VCE-VM Literacy.

Literacy Across the Curriculum

Teachers across the whole school have continued to work in Terms 3 and 4 on developing learning activities and resources to help students acquire the literacy skills required for success in each subject. This work has focused on supporting students to learn and use the subject-specific vocabulary required to read, think and write effectively in their subjects, using a range of strategies including vocabulary knowledge scales. Teachers have also continued to focus on the explicit teaching of writing in each subject, working with exemplars so that students can read and understand the key features of different writing forms before working on their own writing tasks. This work is ongoing and will continue to support excellence in reading and writing at Lilydale Heights College.
