Focus on Learning

Kindergarten

Wow, Term 4 already! Kindergarten have a jammed pack term of learning and fun. We have been working hard on our skipping, for the upcoming showcase.

Mathematics

Kindergarten have been learning how to share a group of objects equally. This is our first introduction into learning about Division. We understand that it is important to have the same amount in each group and we also know how to find the the total amount.

English

We have been working really hard in Literacy with our reading and writing. In writing we have been making sure we have capital letters, fingers spaces and full stops. We have also been sounding out unknown words as well as using the word wall to help with our sentences. In reading we are applying our knowledge of the STARS Words and letter- sound combinations to sound out unknown words.

Science

In Science this term we are learning about living things. We are so lucky to be able to use our fabulous garden to grow some veggies from seeds.

Last week, we used a small plantable pot, soil and our choice of veggie seed to learn about the needs of living things. We learned that seeds need soil, water and sunlight to grow. We need to spray our seeds with water daily and make sure they are in a partly shaded area.

Kinder Readiness-  Week 1

Roooaarring good time was had by the Kinder Readiness children last Friday, for their first day at Big School. Children listened to a story about a dinosaur who went to school and then created their own dinosaur to take home.

Congratulations to our winners from Week 1 - Brooklyn and Billie!  They received a voucher for a complimentary ice-cream courtesy of The Coolamon in Quirindi.

This week's challenges are riddles.  Good luck!

Nature Ninjas - our gardening club

Our Nature Ninjas have already been hard at work this term, planning an array of projects for our school garden areas.  In the next fortnight, we will be focusing on germinating a variety of seeds to add into our garden.  We are hoping to propagate tomatoes, radish, strawberries, zucchini and cucumber.

We are also revitalising an area of our Wellness Garden.  We are hoping to plant perennial flowers as well as some strawberries, to enhance this space into a colourful oasis! Stay tuned for our before and after photos.

Chicken Update

Our chickens are settling into their new home.  The Nature Ninjas will be working on naming these chickens.   We have a barnevelder, gold-laced wyandotte, araucana cross, and copper maran in the mix!

Our eggs have now been placed in the incubator.  These eggs will be incubated for around 21 days until they hatch.  Today is Day 6 out of 21 for our eggs.  For chicken eggs the temperature, humidity and rotation of the eggs must be correct to ensure high hatch rates...lucky a machine is doing the hard work for us!   The eggs range in colour: white, brown, dark brown, olive and green/blue.  This is because of the different breeds laying; a mix of wyandotte, araucana, olive egger, barnevelder, coronation sussex and buff orpington.

Nature Ninja Spotlight

Each week we will be shining a spotlight on some of our devoted Nature Ninjas.  It is so wonderful to see the children enthusiastically engaging in each session out in the garden and lovely spring sunshine!
