From The Principal's Desk

Welcome back to Term 4. We hope you all had a relaxing break and had time to unwind and refresh ready for our final term.

Term 4 began with welcoming 4 new families (7 students) to our Delacombe community. We hope that they are getting settled and finding their way around the area.

Term 4 is always a busy term with Grade 4 students already completing a week of swimming. The calendar is full of lots of opportunities for our students and we hope that they take advantage of all the ways that we encourage their learning.

Don’t forget to dust down the school hats. The sunshine this week has reminded us fully how we need our hats outside. “No Hat, No Play” rule applies to terms 1 and 4 each year.

The school is beginning to transform for our annual Writers’ Festival. You might notice lots of things appearing and the students working hard on their writing pieces and their art work. Keep an eye on our social media posts and Compass for important updates.

This term we also have:

  • Kinder transition sessions. (If you have a kinder child please make sure their enrolment is in)
  • Grade 2 Sleepover (Next week with lots of excited students)
  • P-2 Athletic sports
  • Energy Breakthrough
  • Swimming for the Preps and Grades 1 and 2 students.
  • The Young Author’s celebration
  • Grade 6 transition program and Graduation
  • Some excursions
  • Book Fair
  • Grade 5 Leadership day and Leadership applications
  • Colour Run
  • School Picnic

As well as our usual learning, assessment period and reports.

Please keep an eye on the calendar for the most up to date information.

Staffing

This term we welcome Jess Johnstone and Sue Tyler to the Prep team, Shane Moore who is working with the Education Support team and Jaymie McDonald who is returning to us.

Briella Christofferson (Fisher) has returned from her honeymoon and this week we welcome back Scott Phillips from his leave.

Traffic

As we continue to grow, being safe on the roads surrounding Delacombe Primary School is of the utmost importance and recently we have had a couple of close calls on Greenhalghs Road. These close calls have resulted from students crossing the road in front of the stadium rather than using the children’s crossing.

Please only use the school crossings that are available around the school. Taking those extra couple of minutes to use the crossing could save a member of our school community from serious injury.

Parking is at a premium and we are continually reminding parents to please be safe with parking.

There is more parking available at the back of the school as well.

Bus stops should not be used for parking as we are reminded by Ballarat Council.

Colours Day

Thanks to Kyra Miller who organised a very successful Sporting Colours Day on the last day of Term 3. The students (and staff) had a great day and participated in some skill sessions and some competitions. Many sporting club colours appeared for the day.

Facilities

Our new play areas in the P-2 space and 5/6 space are nearly ready for handover. The old tennis courts are looking very flash and will be well utilised and the P/1/2 students are ready to explore their new climbing poles and extended sand area.

Let’s hope the sunshine continues.

Have a great week- Marnie and Stephanie.
