Visual Arts

Last week, I was excited to visit the ‘Spotlighting Bullying’ exhibition at the Track Gallery in Mount Waverley. It was fantastic to see our student artwork proudly on display and have many families visit the exhibition, which shone a light on the important issue of bullying and mental health.

On Tuesday, we had our first Prep Transition session with 15 of our 2024 Foundation students experiencing their first Art lesson. Students had fun working on their construction skills by creating the character, Forky, from Toy Story 4. It was wonderful getting to know our newest members of CNPS and their families. I wish to thank our Year 6 captains Amna, Sasha, Deepita and Panav for supporting the kinder students and for being wonderful role models.

Lastly, we had students in the Junior school finish their construction projects from last term. Foundations students completed their stick puppets and grade 1/2 students produced some amazing insect sculptures. Check out their wonderful creativity!

Japanese Room News

こんにちわ、かぞく

Hello Families,

In Japanese, we began the term learning about Otsukimi – the moon-viewing festival. The annual event on the Japanese calendar occurs at the  ‘Harvest’ or mid-autumn full moon. This year, it was celebrated on the 29th of September. It is said that during the full moon of Otsukimi, you can see the rabbits making mochi (glutenous rice) in the moon. In addition to direct moon viewing, other traditions include displaying decorations made of Susuki grass, reciting poetry and offering food in honour of a bountiful harvest.

In Foundation and Year 1/2, students made their own rabbits using different paper folding techniques. They learned and practiced writing the kanji for moon 月 and the word for rabbit うさぎusagi.

Year 3/4s and 5/6s worked in the staffroom to make their own Tsukimi Dango – the traditional glutenous rice balls. The ingredients were – glutenous rice flour / Dango flour, icing sugar and water. We topped them with traditional sweet red bean paste or Nutella.

We had a great time, even if was a bit messy!

Japanese Club will begin again in Week 6. I look forward to seeing everyone ready to continue to challenge themselves in their Hiragana learning and achieving their Japanese badges.
