Hoop Time Success – Years 3 & 4 Shine on the Court!
On Wednesday 6th August, our Year 3 and 4 students represented St Mary’s with pride at the annual Hoop Time basketball competition, held at Waverley Stadium. The day was filled with energy, excitement, and incredible sportsmanship, with every student displaying grace in both victory and defeat.
We were thrilled to see four out of our five St Mary’s teams make it through to the finals—an amazing achievement, particularly as all teams were made up of mixed abilities. It was truly special to witness the way students encouraged and supported one another, showing teamwork, resilience, and school spirit throughout the day.
A special shoutout to Fergal McGeough, who coached his team, the 'St Mary’s Magpies' to a well-deserved victory. Rumour has it he's landed his own Ted Lasso spin-off series on Apple TV next year!
Congratulations to our winning team:
Year 4: Zac, Aiden C, Izzy, Lachy D, Max, Luca
Year 3: Leo, Issy, Phoebe
A huge thank you to Sam Sullivan for organising such a smooth and successful day, and to our wonderful parent helpers: Rachel, Mike, and Dan for their time, coaching, and supporting the students.
What a fantastic day of fun, friendship, and basketball!
LUNCHTIME STEM CLUB
STEM CLUB is becoming one of the most popular lunchtime clubs at St Mary’s! Our number one priority is enjoyment and number two is learning. In Term 1,2 and 3 we have focused on the following topics for the seniors: Scratch, Canva, Kahoots, Blookets and we’re looking into little robots called MicroBit. The juniors have been doing Tower Building with: Blocks, Legos and STEM Straws.
We average 40-60 people every lunch. If you are interested in STEM come by the library on Thursday first play!

Intergenerational Program
Intergenerational Project Begins!
On Wednesday, our Social Justice Leaders and School Leaders officially began the Intergenerational Project, a special initiative running throughout Term 3. During our first visit, we were introduced to a group of local seniors, who we now refer to as our ‘Grandfriends’. To help break the ice, we each had the opportunity to ask questions and learn a little more about them. One of our first questions was, “What is your favourite lolly?”, which gave us the chance to bring along some sweet treats (mostly chocolate!) to share. Some of us even discovered fun connections, like mutual football teams or shared links to our families.
Overall we had a great time and can’t wait to go back!
