Junior School News

What a fantastic start to Term 3! All students representing EHS for Volleyball were fantastic – encouraging each other on and off the court. EHS took home gold for the boys division and silver for the girls. Additionally, a number of our students are currently at Training Band Music Camp and Wind Ensemble Music Camp. It is wonderful to see our students working to refine their practice within their ensembles and engage with guest instructors and conductors.

Peer mentoring has continued this term, with Year 7's meeting up with their Year 10 mentors to discuss cyber safety, respectful relationships and friendships. This is an extension from performance from Brainstorm Productions at the end of last term. The next mentor session will occur in week 8.

Integrated Studies has a focus of Sustainability for this term. Students are currently unpacking the concepts introduced in the documentary '2040' during their lessons. They will be drawing on these concepts when completing their upcoming assessment CAT1: Acting Green. This task will involve the implementation of strategies which aim to improve aspects of sustainability around the home. Students will need to introduce these strategies and determine their effectiveness over a number of weeks. They will collect evidence and analyse this during class time. To help prepare students for this task, we recommend watching '2040' as a family.

Students can access '2040' on Clickview with the following link (sign in with EHS credentials): https://www.clickview.net/secondary/videos/22105568

An online camp information session will run on Monday August 18 at 5:30pm. This will provide families with an overview of what to expect from the Year 7 Camp and an opportunity to ask any questions. This session will be recorded and made available on the Compass Newsfeed. Webex link: https://eduvic.webex.com/meet/boysen.kathryn.l

The Year 7 camp will take place in week 7 of term 3 at the Amberley Centre. Students will participate in a range of activities over a three-day and two-night camp experience. All Year 7 students will come together on Wednesday 3 September, whilst the other days will be with their Integrated Studies/Skills Lab groups.

A kind reminder to please communicate any challenges with attendance to the school. This can be achieved by entering this information through Compass and adding a ‘parent note’ to communicate to teachers and staff why your child is absent. This information is vital to help us to meet your young person at their point of need and offer additional supports when required. Additionally, please communicate any planned absences to your child’s coordinator. Note that planned extended absences need to be communicated and confirmed by Vincent Sicari, but this can be achieved via communications with your child’s coordinator.

Lots going on as always in the Junior School and the team would like to thank you all for your support.
