From the Principal

Welcome back! I hope that everyone had a restful break and is feeling re-energised for a busy and rewarding term ahead, with plenty of opportunities for learning and connection across the school.

Last week marked the first performances of our spectacular 2025 School Production of Anastasia. The show is the result of months of dedication from our cast, crew, musicians and production team, who gave up time during the holidays for final rehearsals, costume design, set building, and technical runs. The performances have been met with enthusiasm from our audiences, and I hope you were able to get a ticket for one of the shows this week to celebrate the amazing talent of our students and staff.

Last week, students took part in our annual Ski Trip. It’s been a busy time for camps and tours, with even more opportunities coming up this term and over the holiday break. Highlights include the Outdoor Ed Bogong Camp from last term and the upcoming Northern Territory trip to Uluru for Year 10s.

We were also delighted to host a group of students and staff from Huaibei No. 1 High School here at Northcote High School last week. Their visit was a wonderful opportunity for cross-cultural connection, and you can read more about their time with us in this edition.

A central park area is proposed between the Hub and the Arts Building. We would like to hear from our community any thoughts on what the possibilities and priorities could be for such an important space for the students and community. Please see the article for more information.

As winter continues, we are still noticing the impact of increased illness across our school community. Thank you to families for continuing to implement Flu and COVIDSafe measures, including keeping students at home when their symptoms would prevent them from engaging in learning. We also thank our students for their flexibility in working with replacement teachers when needed. Your care and cooperation are appreciated.

Finally, thank you to our wonderful Friends of Northcote parent group, who continue to build connection and community through events like the Film Night and Talkfest. Planning is now underway for the Comedy Night later this term – we hope to see you there, or at one of our remaining Anastasia performances!
