Sports Report

Yr 7 Regional Soccer

On what was an absolutely freezing and rainy day, we coached the year 7 soccer team at division.

We started our first game well against a good Lalor side and were very unlucky not to come away with a victory, with the game ending in a draw. Our next game was our toughest against Preston, and as the heavy rain set in, the boys unfortunately lost this one. Our final game of the day was against William Ruthven, with a brilliant second half performance, we came away with a convincing win. Despite not making it to the final, it was an enjoyable day, and we had a great time coaching the boys.

Last term, the year 7 girls went to Narrandjeri Stadium to play soccer for the one-day interschool sports tournament. We played 4 games in total,  2 of which we won. Everyone played so well and tried their hardest even through the pouring rain. A lot of the girls had never played before, but still put in all their effort, resulting in some awesome goals, strong kicks, and everybody valuing and helping one another. Overall, it was such a fun day of laughs and memories! And we hope to coach these girls again!

Intermediate Girls Regional AFL

On Wednesday the 23rd of July, a group of year 9/10 girls went to CT Barling Reserve for Regionals AFL. The girls played a tough physical game of footy for their first game. They held up strong, but unfortunately came away with a loss. In the first half of their second game they showed real potential as they fought for the ball and played some great footy! The second half of the game had their opposing team with the wind behind them which helped them get the win in the end, but girls fought hard until the end. Well done!

State Cross Country

On July 24 we had a team of 12 students travel to Yarra Glen Racing Club to compete in the State Cross Country Championships. To get to this level of competition is an amazing achievement. Our students gave their all, when competing against all of the top runners in the state.  It was good to also see many parents there to cheer them on.  Well done to all of our Cross Country Team.  A big congratulations to our Yr 7 Boys team who came 3rd in the teams event, the team consisted of Raff Butteris, Otis Shelly, Ferdia Kiriazis and Benjamin Olmstead.

Junior Girls AFL

On the 25th of July at C.T Barling Reserve the junior girls footy team came together at regionals! We had a strong showing on the day, starting with a solid 2.0.12 to 0 win over Wallan, followed by a dominant 4.5.29 to 0 result against Coburg. We gave it our all in the final game but just fell short against Montmorency, going down 1.0.6 to 3.4.22 and narrowly missing a spot in the final. Massive shoutout to Stella for her leadership as captain and to Bonnie for her relentless effort all day. We are super proud of the team and the way we played throughout.

Intermediate Boys/ Mixed Regional AFL

On Monday 28th of July, the Intermediate boys AFL team made their way to CT Barling for Regionals. They were full of energy and ready to give it their all. Starting our first game early, the boys were able to come home with a big win to start the day. Their second game was a bye, and their third game, although they gave it their all, unfortunately ended up with the loss. The boys showed great team work and maturity during the day, with some great football skills as well. Well done boys!

Yr 8 Boys /Mixed Regional AFL

On Wednesday, we went to Ct Barling Reserve and played three 30-minute games of Australian rules football. We versed Ilim College, Diamond Valley College, and Sacred Heart College. The games were very fun, and the players played fairly. The players from Northcote represented the school with pride and tried their best. In the end, we won 1 of 3 games and won’t be going to regionals. Special shout out to three of our most passionate players, who both got injured in our final game, Thomas Rodereda, Harry Dicheira and Samuel Moston. You should be proud of your effort, and the talent you provided to the team. Hopefully we make it to state next year.
