PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Welcome back to the first newsletter for Term 3.
We’ve had many exciting events and learning opportunities to commence the term.
The Grade 5s attended BioLab (located at Belmont High School) to learn about the human body and substances that can impact the body. The Grade 5s also attended Geelong High School to view their latest school production. Geelong High funded this event and provided transport for our students and we are grateful to them for the opportunity.
The Preps have celebrated a huge milestone, celebrating 100 Days of School. They have been wonderful additions to our school community and we are proud of their learning and achievements so far.
Our Victorian State School Spectacular (VSSS) Mass Choir attended the hub rehearsal at the Melbourne Town Hall, continuing their preparations for the performance in September.
This Friday, our Grade 1, 2, 3 and 4 students will learn all about Road Safety by participating in the RACV Road Safety Incursion. Miss Emily Angliss, who is a staff representative on School Council, enquired about this incursion following upgrades to road safety measures in our community and some identified concerns about our local roads. This will be a valuable learning opportunity that certainly supports student safety and wellbeing.
We welcome the Williams family (Grade 4), Kennedy-Hunt family(Grade 3), Mensforth family (Grade 2 and Prep) and Hanlon family (Prep) to our Chilwell PS community.
Also, Annie Malesic (Performing Arts) and Lachlan McLean (Education Support) to our staff.
In the term ahead, we have many exciting learning opportunities. Book Week celebrations, excursions/incursions and the Book Fair.
On Wednesday 17th September, we are looking forward to welcoming our parent and carer community into our classrooms from 3:40-4:40pm for students to share their learning. Please pop this date in your diary!
The excitement remains high for the Sensory Garden with many performances on the theatrette and creative play opportunities. We still await some defect rectifications that will make the garden fully functional. We do remind our school community that sand and dirt must not be placed down the sinks and in the drains. We would love to keep the playground functioning now and for many years to come.
Last Friday was an exciting day for our Principal Team, celebrating World Principal’s Day. Meg even had some special messages sent to her in the Caribbean! The students spoiled us with letters, cards, poems and compliments boxes. The staff spoiled us with a special morning tea with a special message from our Semester 2 School Leaders. We were truly grateful and feel privileged every day to work at Chilwell PS.
This term, we welcome our Semester 2 School Leaders, Liam, Alexia, Annabeth and Finlay. They did an amazing job at their first assembly on Friday, and we have great confidence they will lead the school well this semester. We thank our Semester 1 leaders, Olivia, Landon, Angus and Sarah, for their leadership in Semester 1.
Congratulations to Grade 6 student, EJ who represented Victoria last week and won a gold medal at the School Sport Australia Basketball Championships in Queensland. He has now travelled to Maroochydore to again represent Victoria in the National AFL Football Championships. Making state teams is always challenging but to make two in one year is so impressive!
This week, we look forward to sending Prep enrolment confirmations to our 2026 Prep families and beginning preparations for their transition to Chilwell PS. A final call out to any Prep 2026 siblings who are not yet enrolled to also contact the office.
If any families are relocating or moving schools in 2026, could they please inform the office via email – chilwell.ps@education.vic.gov.au.
Next week, we look forward to welcoming Meg back from Long Service Leave and hearing all about her exciting adventures.
Kind regards,
Sarah Jeffreys
