Year 3/4 Hooptime Competition

On Thursday 31st July, Lakeside College sent five teams- two future stars and three rookies teams, to compete in the Pakenham Hooptime Basketball competition.

What a fun, competitive day it was with schools from all around the area participating in round robin games of basketball. Students get to experience being part of a school team, game play in a competitive environment and  just as importantly, the chance to develop their basketball skills.

All of our teams were able to get a few wins under the belt which is always great to keep the enthusiasm levels up. Our Future stars girls made the semi finals. They played really well, unfortunately losing to their St Clare’s opponents.

Each of our basketball teams were lucky enough to have secondary students as their coaches who competently coached our Grade 3/4 teams all day. A special thank you Will E, Zack J, Stella G, Teresa M, Seth, Michael, Hayley C and Dylan for taking the time to coach our students.

A great way to form cross age connections between members of our Lakeside College community.

Year 7 Interschool Table Tennis

The Year 7 boys table tennis players had enthusiastically taken up the invitation to represent the school early in the school year, practising over many lunchtimes. Out of 10 teams playing in two groups, these boys reached the Grand Final of the Cardinia group regional interschool competition recently, on July 25th, only to be narrowly overtaken by a slightly better side on the day.

The students, to their great credit, exhibited great sportsmanship and the convenor remarked on their politeness, initiative and helpfulness.

Year 8 Interschool Table Tennis

A sunny day after several grey, chilly ones, saw the year 8 girls and boys table tennis players emerge from home room on the way to the bus with smiles on their faces up and ready to venture somewhat into the unknown of interschool competition.

We had three teams, one of boys and two of girls, to take on their counterparts

in other schools in the sports division for Cardinia at the Greater Dandenong Table Tennis Association hall.

Despite early misgivings that some had about how well they would play, both girls and boys teams placed in the top teams for the day and relished the competition. Again, our students stood out as good citizens, in supporting the running of the competition and their teammates in roles such as keeping score sheets updated and chair umpiring.
