Principal Post

 Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term 3!

I trust that you enjoyed valuable time with family and friends across the past two weeks.  I hope that your children have enjoyed a change of routine and feel well rested and ready to engage again productively in what promises to be a busy and productive term.

It is important that you have ongoing conversations with your children about settling back into school life and doing their best in all their learning and play.  It is important that all students are quickly back into routine and are well rested.

Today our 3-4 students travelled to the Melbourne Museum! What a great way to start the term.

This Term will once again be a busy one. As well as our focus on Literacy, Numeracy and Religious Education, we have many exciting events to look forward to including

  • 100 Day of School Celebration (Foundation)
  • St John Vianney's Feast Day inc Kaboom
  • Parish Sacrament of Confirmation (Year 6)
  • Year 3-6 Swimming @ Aquastar Haileybury College
  • School Concert A Night and the Museum
  • Book Week Parade and incursion & Book Fair
  • Senior students visiting Wellington Kinder
  • Footy Colours Day

Term 3 Punctuality...

Students -Be on time!!!

As we begin the new term, we want to make it very clear that all students are expected to arrive at school on time. The roll is marked strictly at 8:45am, and any student who arrives after this time will be marked as LATE

Regular lateness disrupts the class and affects not only your child’s learning but also that of others. It is essential that families make every

effort to ensure students are at school before the bell. Punctuality is not optional—it is a basic expectation.

Welcome

Welcome to Faith Year 5 and Seth Year 1 and parents Marlon and Ashini who join our community. We hope that their time with SJV will be very enriching and supportive.

The importance of Hospitality

In last Sunday's Gospel we read of the story of Martha and Mary welcoming and spending time with Jesus.   Martha prepared food and Mary sat and chatted with Jesus.  As we begin another term at SJV we are reminded of our call to reach out, to welcome, to check in, to be social and to serve others. It demonstrates the value we place on the dignity of each person.

NAPLAN Individual Results

St. John Vianney's (SJV) is proud to announce the release of the 2025 NAPLAN individual results for our Year 3 and 5 students, which were distributed to families on Tuesday 22nd of July. These results reflect the significant academic growth our students have achieved over the past three years.

Our commitment to explicit direct instruction and the science of reading has been instrumental in this progress. By focusing on evidence-based teaching strategies, we have enhanced our students' literacy and numeracy skills, leading to improved outcomes in the NAPLAN assessments.

Reminders:

Please be aware that there is NO staff supervision before school until 8:30am.

At 8:30am until the bell goes students should be on the assembly area in front of the staffroom.

There is NO supervision after 3:30pm. If parents allow their child to play on the oval or junior adventure playground after school the parents must supervise.  Please note that should Camp Australia or Kelly Sports require to use the oval or adventure playground, parents must leave the area.

Please note that the school is not in charge of Camp Australia, Kelly Sports or Instrumental Music lessons. We provide the facility for these groups to operate. To enrol, make payment or indicate your child's absence please contact the services directly.

As we begin another term, I remind you of our Parent Code of Conduct. If there is any issue with another child, please ensure you speak with the class teacher or Leadership. Do not approach another child.

A reminder that should the staff make the judgement that an ambulance needs to be rung for your child we will do this. This may occur before we contact a parent. To this end I strongly encourage all families to have ambulance cover as otherwise families could be charged by the Ambulance Victoria.

We have students who have anaphylaxis. Please remind your child not to share food or drink.  We encourage students not to bring nut products into the school for snacks or lunches but should they do so, it must be declared to the teacher each and every time.

For birthday treats we do not allow food items to be shared including pre purchased cakes lolly bags etc...

Carpark / Parking

Please ensure safety at all times. Walk your children into the school grounds.

Be patient and respectful and obedient to all signs and speed limits.

Please be watchful of toddlers and students who may be crossing roads, exiting or getting into vehicles.
