Year 8 News

Vermont Secondary College

Hello,

A big welcome back to our Year 8 students and their families, especially to those new students and their families who have joined Vermont Secondary College for the first time in 2024. We hope you all had a refreshing break.

I’m always surprised to hear from students of the myriad of ways and of the range of activities students participate in over summer.  Despite the earlier wake-up calls, students are settling into classes and our new timetable well. Overall, they seem to like the earlier 3.00 pm finish!

We have quite a busy start to the term with photographs, School Swimming and rounds of inter-school sport on the agenda. Students are encouraged to participate in those sports and lunchtime activity clubs which appeal to them. Events are advertised and published regularly on COMPASS.

Uniform

So far, students have been organised to come to school in the correct school uniform. A reminder that should your child come to school in incomplete school uniform, and they provide a parent note explaining the reason, they will be issued an Out of Uniform Pass by the Student Manager which will appear on COMPASS. Out of Uniform notes need to be shown to the Student Manager before school (8:30-8:39am). Any student without a note, will be allocated a lunch-time detention which will also appear on COMPASS.

Year 8 Melbourne City Camp is back!

Year 8 Melbourne City Camp will return this year during Term 3. The full itinerary will be published by the Program Managers closer to the camp dates, but activities will include:  ArtVo, IMAX, Obrien Icehouse, Rock climbing, MSAC ….and much more! This is likely to be the highlight of the year for Year 8 students, so parents please save the dates in your calendar:

Wed 17th Jul – Fri 19th Jul – Year 8 Camp 1 (Macedon)
Wed 24th Jul – Fri 26th Jul – Year 8 Camp 2 (Hotham)
Wed 7th Aug – Fri 9th Aug – Year 8 Camp 3 (Stirling)

Health/ Medication UPDATE – Is your child’s information up to date?

Does your child have asthma or an allergy? Has their medication changed? Does their asthma plan need an update? Please provide all updated medical plans as soon as possible      to the Sickbay, so that all medical records are current. Students cannot attend excursions/camp if their plans are out of date. Not sure? Please contact the staff in Sickbay.

Finally, during the year, please contact your child’s Student Manager if we need to be aware of additional circumstances which may impact your child’s education.

Here’s to a stellar 2024!

Thank you.
