Year 1/2 Learning Community News
The 1/2 learning community has settled into school beautifully, and are proud to show the EPS Gleams. We have been working on establishing our classroom routines and expectations and making new friends that are a different grade to us. We have played lots of games and learnt all about the EPS gleams - our star gleam of the week is Responsible Ryker because they are responsible for caring for the school environment and keeping everyone safe. The Grade 2's are very excited about their upcoming camp and have selected room buddies. We are all very excited for learning in Term 1!
Literacy
The 1/2's have been eagerly practicising Initialit games, in preparation for beginning our Literacy learning next week. Our favourites have been 'Banana Bingo' and 'Grab Bags'. In our classrooms, we have been reading class novels, making bookmarks, choosing interest books to read and practising writing responses to books we have read with our class.
Maths
In Maths, the 1/2's have been learning about Place Value. We have been playing fun maths games individually and in partners. We can order and partition numbers and say how many th
ousands, hundreds, tens and ones are in a number. We have explored using MAB, abacuses, dice and calculators to make and say numbers.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, the 1/2's have been learning about Sustainability in anticipation for our upcoming excursions to CERES. We have completed a KWL Chart with our teachers and explored sustainable and unsustainable actions. We have gone on a learning walk to find the types of rubbish found in our yard and sorted these accordingly to see what we can do to improve our school. We are so excited to go to CERES and have lots of questions and wonderings for the educator when we go!
