Junior School Report

Dear South Oakleigh College Community,

it's great to be back at our school for another year. I would like to welcome all of our new Year 7 students to the Junior School and congratulate them on the fantastic start to the year that they have had.

This year we introduced a three-week transition program to assist our students with the big leap they have made from primary into secondary school. During this time, our Year 7's partook in a number of activities designed to get our students more familiar with one another and also our College.

We were also fortunate to head to Waratah Beach Camp for three days and further strengthen the new bonds this cohort of students has started to form. Our Year 7 meet and greet barbeque in the first week back was also very well attended by our students and parents and it was a great opportunity for our teachers to introduce themselves to our newest parents.

The Year 8 students have seamlessly slotted into their new role in the school and have been providing our Year 7's with support and guidance. The Year 8 camp is later this term and I encourage all students to attend. It is through these extra- curricular opportunities that students can connect with their peers and teachers. It was pleasing to see so many students participating in the recent House Swimming event at Oakleigh Pools and displaying so much house pride!

I would also like to remind our students about the importance of arriving to school on time every day in the correct uniform and ensuring that they have all the correct materials for class including a charged laptop, notebook, pencil case, planner and any other materials their teachers have asked them to bring to the class.

Senior School Report

Greetings South Oakleigh College Community.

Term 1 has been busy for everyone but specifically students studying VCE subjects. VCE and VCE/VM teachers are working hard to support students to do their best and feel successful.

This term we published an expression of interest for students studying a VCE 3 4 subject to apply for Special Examination Arrangement Provision for internal SACs , External Exams  and the GAT for students who have a diagnosed medical condition.  Those students and families who contacted us received further communication about filling up required forms so that it is provided to VCAA in time. Please note VCAA follows strict timelines and we appreciate support provided by students and families to make sure that applications are lodged in a timely manner.

Students and families can see scheduled SACs on compass. We would recommend checking compass regularly to make sure students are well organised. While it is important that students devote time towards self study, on the other hand it is also important that students take care of their wellbeing . This includes eating nutritious food, exercising, connecting with friends and family and continuing their hobbies.

In case community members want to reach out for academic or Wellbeing related support for their children, the following Senior School Members can be contacted.

Mrs Monga - Director of Senior School

Ms Ferguson- VCE Coordinator (Year 12)

Ms. Dimakakos - VCE coordinator (Year 11)

We wish students all the very best for the rest of the year.
