Learning

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope all families had a happy and restful holiday break. It has been fantastic visiting classrooms and seeing our students settled back into the routines of school.

This term, we have introduced a new way to strengthen communication between school and home through our weekly Week Ahead article, which will be shared each Thursday through Compass.

The Week Ahead provides a clear and simple overview of the learning planned for the following week. This includes key areas such as English, Mathematics, Integrated Studies and Wellbeing, along with important reminders.

Families do not need to teach the content at home; instead, the Week Ahead helps you know what is coming up so you can talk with your child about their learning.

When children talk about their learning, they are more likely to remember it, understand it and feel confident sharing their ideas. These conversations can happen in any language. Talking about learning in your home language still helps children build understanding, vocabulary and confidence.

When the Week Ahead is shared on Thursday:

Read the Week Ahead with your child and talk about what they will be learning.

You might ask:

  • What will you be learning next week?
  • Are there any new words or ideas we can talk about?
  • What are you looking forward to learning?

During the week:

Use the Week Ahead to follow up on your child’s learning.

You might ask:

  • What did you learn today?
  • What new word, sound or strategy did you practise?
  • Can you show me or explain it?

Our goal is to strengthen the partnership between school and home so that students feel seen, supported and successful in their learning.

We encourage all families to take a few minutes each week to use the Week Ahead as a starting point for conversations about learning. Small conversations at home can make a big difference to your child’s confidence and understanding.

Warm regards,
