Mother's Day Celebration

Our College community recently came together for a special Mother’s Day Breakfast, celebrating the important maternal figures in the lives of our students and acknowledging the many ways women nurture, guide and support our community.

It was wonderful to welcome mothers, grandmothers, aunties and carers for a morning of connection and celebration. The event also provided an opportunity to recognise those who may find Mother’s Day difficult, including those missing loved ones or longing to become mothers.

We were privileged to hear from our guest speaker, Ms Callos, who shared heartfelt reflections on motherhood, family and community. As the mother of two daughters attending Killester College, her words resonated deeply with those in attendance.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this inaugural Mother’s Day Breakfast such a warm and meaningful celebration.

Easter Liturgy

On Holy Thursday, we gathered as a college community and paused to reflect on the quiet yet profound power of welcome, service, and love.

At the Last Supper, Jesus came together with his disciples, sharing a simple meal and humbly washing their feet. In this sacred moment, he revealed that true hospitality is not about grandeur, but about compassion, humility, and self-giving love - a love that calls us to act with justice for others.

Throughout Term 1, our students and staff embraced this call through their generous donations of chocolate eggs and sweet treats, which were used to create prizes for our Easter raffle in support of Caritas Australia. Caritas works alongside some of the world’s most vulnerable communities, providing access to clean water, food security, education, and emergency relief, while empowering individuals to build brighter, more sustainable futures.

In living out our 2026 theme of Justice, this initiative reminds us that justice is not only something we speak about, but something we actively choose - in the ways we give, serve, and stand in solidarity with others.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we raised over $1200 - a record-breaking effort - to support this important work and bring hope to those most in need.

May we continue to carry this spirit of hospitality and justice into our homes, our community, and our everyday encounters, recognising Christ in each person we meet.

Units 1 & 2 Visual Art

Our Unit 1 Art Creative Practice students recently participated in an enriching full-day workshop led by artist John Lawry.

Drawing inspiration from Rembrandt, students created oil painting portraits of someone meaningful to them, including a mother, sibling or friend. Throughout the day, John provided demonstrations and individual guidance, supporting students to develop their skills in colour mixing, painting facial features and selecting appropriate brush techniques

Within our theme of Justice,  students explored how art can honour the dignity and individuality of others.

The completed works will be showcased at the Visual Arts and Technology Exhibition on Friday 9 October.

Junior SEGAP Schools Tournament

Killester students recently competed in the Junior SEGAP Schools Tournament against Kilbreda College, Sacred Heart Girls' College and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College.

The competition followed a round robin format, with students participating in Basketball, Futsal and Badminton. Our Badminton team played five matches in total, including both a semi-final and grand final.

We are proud to share that all teams were successful in winning their Grand Final matches, reflecting the dedication, teamwork and perseverance of our students.

A special thank you to our Year 9 students, Chi, Julia, Fiona and Krystal, who generously supported the teams through training sessions held on Tuesday mornings and Thursday lunchtimes.

Congratulations to all participating students on their outstanding efforts and achievements.

Yr 11 Vocational Major - Justice in Practice

Each Wednesday, our Year 11 VM students participate in a hands-on Work Related Skills project, creating handmade heat bags in our Brigid’s Blessing secondhand clothing and recycling space.

Filled with wheat and lavender, these heat bags are available for purchase for $10 each. This initiative has been made possible through the generous donation of materials from a parent within our school community.

All proceeds support organisations connected to the College, including the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project, allowing students to contribute meaningfully to social justice initiatives while developing valuable practical and teamwork skills.

To purchase a heat bag, please contact Lisa Reynders at lreynders@killester.vic.edu.au.
