PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.
We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.
As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people,
animals, plants and waterways.
We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome Back
Hopefully, everyone had a wonderful Easter and for those of us lucky enough to enjoy school holidays I trust these were restful and enjoyable. We have a busy ten-week term 2 in front of us as we head toward shorter days and colder weather.
A reminder that we have one pupil free day during the term, Friday, June 5 which is attached to the kings Birthday (public Holiday) Monday 8th June.
Whole day care will available via Team Kids for the scheduled Friday Curriculum Day
ANZAC day
Last year, while travelling through Turkey, I had the privilege of visiting ANZAC Cove,a place that has long held deep significance for many Australians, and one I had hoped to see for many years. Standing on that shoreline, it was impossible not to feel a profound sense of reflection. The landscape itself is both beautiful and confronting and knowing what occurred there brings a quiet stillness. Walking through the area, reading the names, and taking in the steep terrain that soldiers once faced made the history feel very real and deeply personal.
It was an emotional and humbling experience to stand in a place where so many Australian soldiers lost their lives. It reinforced the courage, sacrifice and resilience that we honour each year on ANZAC Day. Visiting ANZAC Cove was a lifelong goal, and one that has left a lasting impression on me. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of remembrance, and of the values, courage, mateship and respect that continue to shape who we are today.
Term 2 INDUSTRIAL ACTION
The AEU has flagged its intention to continue with industrial action during Term 2, with this taking slightly different forms to the whole day stop work late in Term 1. I will give sufficient notice to all parents, students and community members of how this may impact them. At this stage there is the possibility of half day stop work action if the discussions between the Government and the AEU fail to come to some kind of resolution. In anticipation I am including this information so that we can start planning and be prepared like we did for the last action.
HALF DAY STOP WORK- Thursday 21 May
Based on our school location we have been allocated:
Thursday 21 May as the day for a half day stop work action
This means that all union members who decide to support this industrial action will stop work for 3 hours and 48 minutes, beginning ten minutes before the first period of student instruction. (First student period/instructional session commences 9.00am)
Teachers stop work at 8.50am and return to duty at 12.38pm
ES staff who commence work at 8.30am will stop work at 8.30am and return to duty at 12.18pm
On Thursday 21st May
Our year 6 camp will proceed as normal
WITHDRAWL OF GENERAL COMMENTS FOR TERM 2 REPORTS
The AEU has instructed its members to the withdrawal of comments on midyear reports.
In simple terms, this means there will be no written comments on students’ mid-year reports as part of the current industrial action.
Reports will still to be completed and shared with families, and they will continue to include important information such as achievement levels and assessment data. However, the personalised written comments that usually explain your child’s progress, strengths and next steps may not be included.
We understand that these comments are valued by families, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this period of industrial action. Teachers will continue to support students’ learning, and families are encouraged to contact the school if they would like to discuss their child’s progress in more detail. The school will also conduct its annual parent teacher interviews as per normal and further details will be released closer to the date (early June).
All other AEU industrial actions relate to the schools internal meeting schedules which does not affect the wider community.
TRAFFIC AROUND THE SCHOOL
Please continue to be mindful of all road users, car, bus and pedestrians as you move around the local streets, particularly around drop off and pick up times. You will have noticed new signage along the fence lines near the crossings. These have been put up due to the crossing supervisors complaining to our council in regard to the somewhat dangerous and appalling driver behaviours they had witnessed last term. I have been informed that the council will continue to monitor the situation and will be giving out “spot fines” as they did last term. Please, I urge all our families to adhere to the road rules and show patience and restraint before we have an unimaginable incident.
A message from Lisa Stuart for upcoming Mother’s Day crafting sessions and Mother’s Day special gift lunchtime session
Hi parents!
For Mother’s Day this year, we’re giving the children a special opportunity to help make the day even more meaningful.
Book and pay for your child’s spot for a fun lunchtime session at school, where they’ll decorate a heart for you to hang somewhere special. All decorations, paint, and glue are provided.
We are also looking for parent helpers to join the decorating sessions—please sign up if you can. If you volunteer, you’ll need:
- a current Working with Children’s Card
- to sign in and sign out at the office on the day
To book your child into the craft sessions:

LOST PROPERTY AND SECOND-HAND UNIFORM SHOP
With cooler mornings and warmish days, jumpers and jackets regularly end up in lost property. If your child has lost their clothing, please check the lost property bin outside the second-hand uniform roller doors (near the Junior Cubby house/sand pit). As a reminder. Clothing items that are named are much more likely to be found and returned to the correct owner. Unnamed items that are of reasonable quality are likely to be re-sold through our second-hand uniform shop.
Here are the scheduled dates for term 2. After school @3.00pm-4.00pm
Monday 27th April
Thursday 28th May.
Thursday 18th June.
