Pilgrim Worship Band Leading Worship

Next Wednesday, the 20th May our Worship Band will be leading Worship. You are very welcome to attend and encourage these students. Worship will commence in the PAC at 9am.

Pilgrim School Musical - 'Jonah's Druthers'

Please see our most recent Musical News for information about costumes your child will need for our upcoming musical.

Props for the musical

The Sets and Props Committee have been hard at work gathering and creating items to help bring our school musical to life!

At the moment, the team is looking for hobby horses to use as props in one of the class dance performances. If your family has a hobby horse that you would be willing to lend to the school for the production, we would greatly appreciate your support. All borrowed items will be carefully looked after and returned via your child following the final performance.

If you are able to assist, please contact a member of the Sets and Props Committee:

Andrew Harris, Tricia Fuente, Tom Ledson, Jordan Wheatcroft and Brett Middleton.

Bikes and Scooters at School

We love seeing our students and families choosing active ways to travel to and from school - whether that’s riding a bike or using a scooter. It’s a fantastic way to stay healthy, build independence, and start the day with fresh energy.

To help keep everyone safe on school grounds, we’d like to remind parents and students that bikes and scooters must be walked once inside the school gates. With many students, staff, and families moving through shared spaces, walking bikes and scooters helps prevent accidents and ensures everyone can move around safely.

Thank you for supporting this important safety practice, and for continuing to encourage active travel to school!

Signing Children in During the School Day

Thank you for remembering to sign your child in at the Compass kiosk when dropping them off during school hours. One more step that makes a big difference: please also hand your child over to a staff member - their class teacher or a member of the Admin team. This helps us make sure every child is safe and settled.

Coffee Connections

We warmly invite all our Pilgrim families to join us for Coffee Connections - a relaxed and welcoming time to gather, chat, and build community together.

We will next meet on Wednesday 10th June (Week 7) 3:30pm - 4:30pm, in front of the Foundation classrooms. If the weather isn’t kind, we’ll move into the Oasis Kitchen, so we can still gather comfortably.

Come along for a cuppa, connect with other families, and enjoy some time together while the children play.

We would love to see you there!

Visit from SVCC

At a recent Worship, our school was delighted to welcome the Southern Vales Christian College (SVCC) Worship Band who led us in singing and dancing to some wonderful worship songs. Mr James Lenigas, Head of Campus at Morphett Vale, also shared an encouraging message about not losing heart. We are grateful to the staff and students of SVCC for visiting and sharing their enthusiasm and faith with our community.

Please consider joining us at our first Fathering Project event for the year:

This seminar is aimed towards supporting parents and caregivers of primary school aged children with a tendency towards worry or anxiety - or who are dealing with difficult life situations.

This free seminar will be held at the Campus Performing Arts Centre next Thursday 21st May at 7pm and will run for approximately 1.5 hours. A free creche is available but must be booked.

Thank you to Pilgrim P&F for initiating this seminar through the successful application for a Parents in Education grant.

Secondary School Information Night

Thank you to those families who attended our recent Secondary School Information Night. This was an evening covered the key ways Pilgrim School prepares our students for secondary school, the enrolment process for secondary school, and how we can all support students through transition to secondary schooling.

The evening also included clarification of the new sibling discount arrangements with both Southern Vales Christian College and Temple Christian College. If you have any further questions following our recent communication to families about these discounts, please contact Michael Denholm or Kristen Heath.

Schools Ministry Group Presentation: Hope that Never Ends

On Monday of Week 10, Term 1, our students from Foundation to Year 6 attended a presentation in the PAC about Easter, delivered by SMG (Schools Ministry Group). Here are some reflections from our Year 5 and 6 students about the presentation:

It was so inspiring to hear about how God's word changes so many people's lives. The message was deep and really touched my heart. It was amazing to hear the story about how Jesus was resurrected. Josh

I learnt about the emotions that Jesus’s friends felt when he died, and I also learnt further about the full story of easter. Max T

Jesus sacrificed himself for us. Wenxin

It showed me that not everything is about chocolate eggs and that God is the light to our world. Sienna V

The service was a really fun way to learn about Easter and the way they presented it was the right mixture of older kids and younger kids. Yasmin

The Easter story is really good because Jesus gave up his life to save us from sin. My favourite part of the story is when Jesus comes back to life. Cadence

School Uniform Checks

Over the coming weeks, our staff will be checking whether students are wearing correct uniform. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct items as per our Uniform Policy when they come to school. Please note the following:

As we are now in autumn, either full winter formal or summer uniform is to be worn. Please ensure that the 'summer' and 'winter' uniform items are not 'mixed' together. From the 1st June only winter uniform can be worn.

Jewellery

  • A watch with functionality of telling the time +/- step counting only may be worn (no smart watches).
  • Earrings – please see the policy update detailed below.
  • No jewellery or body piercing.

Hair

  • Longer than shoulders must be tied back from face (entirely up).
  • Hair accessories should be uniform colours.
  • Haircuts should be no less than ‘Number 2’
  • No undercuts or hair colourings.

Shoes

  • Conventional black lace-up school shoes (not black sneakers that are sometimes marketed as school shoes) need to be worn.
  • Only students in Foundations - Year 2 may wear black school shoes with Velcro or Mary Jane style shoes.

Additional items

  • No clothing such as singlets, T-shirts or leggings should be visible under the uniform.
  • Coats and gloves in maroon, blue or grey are optional and for outside wear only and are worn over the school jumper or the Campus sports jacket.
  • Oodies are not to be worn.

If you have questions about uniform, please contact Kristen Heath or the Front Office staff. Teachers will send parents an email if they notice there are components of the uniform your family needs to address.

Uniform Policy

We have recently updated our Uniform Policy to include the following options for earrings at school.

Plain round gold or silver studs (studs may include a single small clear non-coloured stone - up to 5mm), or plain gold or silver sleepers with a single earring per ear lobe.

Mentoring at Pilgrim (MAP) Program

(Building confidence, self esteem, relationships as a volunteer one-to-one)

Being a Pilgrim Mentor is a wonderful way to be involved in the wider community at Pilgrim School with a focus on developing student confidence and ability to achieve success and to be a friend.

Students and mentors meet one-to-one at the same time weekly for one lesson. Mentors are carefully matched to build upon each individual student’s strengths, interests and abilities.

Mentoring benefits students because it:

  • is safe, personal and always one-to-one
  • is about relationships
  • builds confidence and self-esteem
  • takes a creative approach to learning
  • promotes community participation in school.

Question: Who are Pilgrim mentors?

Answer: Mentors are volunteers who bring their talents and interests to Pilgrim School, you may be a parent, caregiver, grandparent, secondary or tertiary level student or senior citizen.

If you have the time (1 hour per week) and are interested in helping students please contact us.

Pilgrim mentors will:

  • hold a current Working with Children Check
  • have completed the RRHAN-EC training
  • undertake Protective Practices training
  • act in accordance with the Duty of Care and Professional Boundaries
  • receive an induction pack
  • keep confidential ALL shared information
  • report any first aid matters promptly
  • report any concerns about student safety or welfare to staff immediately
  • participate in a school orientation session.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Education Support Officer, MAP Coordinator
