Acting Deputy Principal's Message
Maria Tasevski
Dear Families,
What a term! There is so much to celebrate: the significant growth we are already seeing in our learners, our ability to thoughtfully adapt and respond to student needs, and the collective commitment to implementing our new Behaviour Management Framework.
I would like to sincerely thank our teachers for their dedication, professionalism, and the care they show each day in creating engaging, supportive learning environments where our students can thrive. Alongside our strong parent partnerships, this truly reflects the love of learning and genuine care that defines our community at SOGS. We are incredibly fortunate to be part of such a special and supportive community.
Last week was a week filled with great successes! The paraliturgies were a hit. Our school community came together to celebrate the most important week in our liturgical calendar. Thank you to you, our parents, who came in droves, ensuring that sense of belonging and community was felt by all. Celebrating Holy Week this way, the readings, the reenactments, the songs, is how core memories are made and no doubt they were made. Our objective of strengthening faith and building our catholic identity was achieved. A wonderful effort by all in our school community.
On the subject of building our Catholic identity, last Tuesday, our year 6s participated in our Confirmation family night, which was another beautiful way to celebrate and learn about our faith. We came together as three schools, listening to the same message, the message of guiding our students to recognise their gifts and encouraging them to live out the work of the Holy Spirit in their everyday lives through their words and actions. Nights like this are a reminder that this journey is not taken alone. It is supported by families, teachers, and our wider faith community. How very blessed our students are.
This week, we celebrated our winning house team. Francis House - Red team were the house that, as a collective, displayed the most Values in Action throughout the term. A democratic vote took place, and a disco was the reward of choice! Glow sticks, balloons and Mr. P as DJ made it a fun-filled afternoon. The best part was the gratitude expressed by the students as they were walking back to their classrooms. Comments like, “ That was so much fun, thank you, Mrs Tasevski”- Matteo in Year 2 and “This is the best day ever!” -Isla in Prep, made it all the better.
Lent is a sacred time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, and our school community has embraced this season with remarkable generosity. From the many donations of books and toys to the gold coin contributions supporting our Lenten Fair, the spirit of giving has been truly inspiring.
Our Walk for Water was a powerful experience, raising awareness that many communities around the world do not have reliable access to clean water. This initiative helped our students grow in compassion and understanding of global injustice.
Together, as a school, we raised $1250.40 for Caritas Australia, supporting vital projects that bring hope, dignity, and practical assistance to those in need. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our REL, Michelle Peel, whose dedication and leadership made all of this possible!
Yesterday, we were pleased to welcome Casey Janidis, our school adviser, who visited to officially announce the appointment of our new principal, Laura Petrie.
Laura Petrie is an experienced and dynamic educational leader with a strong track record of success. She has served as both Deputy and Acting Principal at St Vincent's De Paul’s Primary School in Strathmore, demonstrating exceptional leadership and commitment. Laura is innovative and forward-thinking, consistently driving positive change and improvement. Her expertise, vision, and dedication will make her a valuable asset to our beautiful community.
Laura will be joining us in Week 3 of Term 2; we eagerly anticipate this new chapter together.
To all our families,
Thank you to our families for your ongoing trust, valuable feedback, and ongoing support. Your partnership plays a vital role in the life of our school. Together, we form a strong and connected team, working in partnership to support our children. This shared commitment creates a powerful foundation where our students are able to flourish, grow in confidence, and achieve their very best each and every day.
From all here at School of the Good Shepherd, we wish you a joyful and restful break this Easter season.
May the risen Christ fill your homes with peace, hope, and love. As we celebrate the gift of new life, may you be blessed with special moments together and a renewed sense of faith.
Happy Easter, and God bless.
See you all in 2 weeks!
Kindly,
Maria Tasevski.
