Library News

Hedwig Hill

As we approach the end of another school year, we'd like to take a moment to reflect on the highlights of our school library in 2023.

Our library has continued to thrive as a vibrant centre for learning, featuring successful programs like "FAST" on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Friday lunchtime, the library transforms into a hub for our primary students, providing a space for reading, games, puzzles, and a gathering place for students from Prep to Year 6.

We keep our book collection current with the latest published books, adding new items and retiring old and unused ones from our shelves. It brings us immense joy to collaborate with our students, who offer valuable input on book purchases.

Our school-wide reading programs have been a source of great pride. We celebrated Book Week, participated in the Tasmanian Reads initiative, took on the Premier Reading Challenge, and were honoured to welcome authors such as Martin Chatterton, Lian Tanner, and Emily Conolan to support our students' learning experience.

Looking ahead, we are excited to upgrade the library space by giving some walls a fresh coat of paint and detailed additions to the bookshelves, revitalising the ambience to be a welcoming environment for all.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to parents, students, and staff for supporting our school library. We are dedicated to nurturing a lifelong love of reading and learning, and your support has been instrumental in achieving this goal.

As the year draws closer, we encourage our students to borrow books during the summer holidays.

Additionally, we'd like to inform you about the opportunity to become a member of the Tasmanian State Library. Membership gives access at no cost, and it comes in two types of memberships.

  1. Online-only Membership:
With an online membership, you can access digital magazines, databases, e-audiobooks, and e-books. To join, visit this link
  2. Full Membership:
For residents of Tasmania seeking the whole library experience, you can join in person at any state library. Please remember to bring proof of your identity. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must accompany you to verify your eligibility.

We look forward to serving your reading and learning in 2024.
