Year 3/4 Cricket

The JSSATIS Girls cricket roster has been running on a Monday afternoon at the Domain this term.  After a challenging start, trying to rustle up enough players for a team, the Year 3/4 team has since been flying.  It was clear from their first game, that the team had some talent.  Their enthusiasm and enjoyment for the game was on display every week.  Well done to the team that included Cora Alomes (Year 2), Amelie Perera, Olivia Ribbon, Anna Thickett (Year 3) and Olive Hall, Elsie Wearne (Year 4).  Special thanks to Craig Ribbon for coaching and umpiring.

“The girls were incredible.  The improvement in every game was obvious. They're an amazing bunch of cartwheeling, energetic, wanting to learn, bunch of fun.”

Craig Ribbon, Coach

Sailing

On Wednesday last week, interested students in Year 5 - 8 were provided the opportunity to explore the sport of sailing at a dedicated Mount Carmel College Sailing Taster Afternoon at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania (RYCT).  The afternoon started with some brief instructions, before groups of two had to set up their dinghy and paddle it around to the beach.  Step two included instructions on setting up the sail, before hitting the water again.   The students picked it up very quickly, and were enjoying their afternoon of sailing in no time.  Six week sailing courses will be offered in Term 1 through the RYCT on Tuesday afternoons.  https://www.discoversailing.org.au/programs/

Triathlon

In perfect conditions on Friday, more than 50 students headed to Bellerive Beach to participate in the Primary Schools Triathlon Challenge.  The event is massive, with nearly 3000 students participating, and many more parents and spectators adding to the atmosphere.  The day started with the individual competitors before the relay teams had their turn in the afternoon.  Triathlon is a gruelling event, and we are very proud of the efforts and fighting spirit from all competitors.  The students also displayed fantastic support and encouragement for each other.

Year 5/6 Touch Football

The Primary Touch Football season has also drawn to a close for 2023.   The team finished the season on a high scoring numerous trys in their final game.  The enjoyment for the team increased each game, as they improved and grew in confidence.  With most of the team from Year 5, hopefully many will return next year, to build on this experience.
