Year 12 Donation

Every year, Year 12 raise funds to assist with the cost of their formal and to purchase a gift for the school.  The students organise various events including a colour run, bake stall & wood raffle, trivia night, candy cane sales and a guess the Easter eggs competition.

This year, Year 12 purchased a flag pole to fly the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian flags together for the school. With the remaining funds, they decided to make a donation to Can Assist Young-Boorowa. Year 12 donated over $400 to Can Assist.

Mrs Kay Doemling accepted the funds on behalf of the Young-Boorowa Can Assist Branch. Kay was thrilled and grateful that the students chose this local charity.

Well done Year 12!

Year 10 PDHPE

Throughout Term 4, Year 10 PDHPE participated in a SEPEP (Sport Education in Physical Education Program) unit and focused on a pairs table tennis competition. Students formed their own teams and voted on who would be the referees, coaches and members of the tribunal.

If any unsportsmanlike conduct occurred, students faced the tribunal and some students received match bans.

Tamsyn & Evie were the overall winners of the competition and took home the chocolates (literally!).

Yr 9 Excursion

Yr 9 departed from Boorowa in the very early hours of the morning on Monday 27 November. After a stop for Macca’s at Sutton Forest, we were on the road again, but not for long. On the bus older than us, Mr Keighley informed us that the engine light was on, but after a ten minute stop for the engine to cool down, we were back on the road and it was not long before we arrived at Barangaroo. We then hopped on a ferry and after a quick trip, we arrived at our first destination and hotel for the night, Cockatoo Island. After a small lunch, we went on a tour of the island which was very long, but informative. We then had some time to chill out in our tents. Since we weren’t allowed our phones we had some great games of uno, which led to an argument over the rules and some good chats. Then it was time for dinner which everyone was happy about. We then had some fun games of hide and seek before our ghost tour which was very fun and everyone enjoyed it. Soon enough it was time for bed.

The next morning was an earlier rise than expected and needed, due to the sunlight, birds and planes. We had breakfast and then it was time to leave Cockatoo Island. After a ferry journey to Circular Quay, we had to take our luggage to the YHA which was a long and tiring journey up about 9 flights of stairs. From there we went to the maritime museum, where we got to go on HMAS Onslow, a submarine and HMAS Vampire, a battleship which everyone loved as we got to see the conditions that people had to endure. We then walked back across the boardwalk and went to the Sea Life aquarium which was very fun and everyone loved it. We got to see a demonstration with Pig the dugong and everyone loved the penguins. We then went to Chinatown for dinner and everyone was adventurous and tried most of the foods. We caught the tram in the pouring rain back to the YHA and looked at the amazing view of Sydney Harbour before heading to bed.

The next day was another early start at 6:00. After breakfast we went to the Australian Museum and saw the Ramses the Great exhibition before exploring the rest of the museum. After that, we caught the train to Circular Quay and then rushed onto a ferry to Taronga Zoo and after an hour at the zoo we headed back to the YHA and headed home. After Mr Keighley took a wrong turn we ended up at Maccas and after our early dinner we headed home but not for long as the bus broke down again, we headed home and after an exhilarating jump over the speed bump we were back at school after a very long 3 days and everyone was very grateful for this.

Stage 5 Child Studies

On Tuesday 12th December we had a visit from the Preschool 2 group of children from the BEE Centre to our Child Studies class.

We have been studying Nutrition in children so we prepared a Christmas lunch with sausage rolls, sandwiches, fruit platters and fairy bread. Following our lunch we played some games and did some activities such as Pin the Nose on Rudolph, making Santa Masks, making Reindeer Food, creating decorated biscuits and tossing the presents into the hoop. Thank you to all the BEE Centre children who made the day such fun and their educators who came with them. Thanks to the 9/10 Child Studies class who did all the organising and cleaning up and the Year 11 EEC class who helped with the food preparation. Thank you also to Mrs Golden for suggesting the idea. It was a lot of fun and I think everyone enjoyed themselves.
