 Athletics Carnival

What a fantastic day we had at our Athletics Carnival last week! The weather was absolutely perfect and the day was superbly organised thanks to the efforts of Vicky and the other staff who supported in a host of ways.

Thanks to our staff and a host of parents and volunteers from Simonds College and Academy of Mary Immaculate, the carnival ran smoothly, with races and tabloid activities flowing seamlessly.

A special shout-out goes to our Year 6 Sports Leaders, whose passion and enthusiasm shone through from the preparation of their chants through to the presentation ceremony when they gave their team speeches. They demonstrated exceptional leadership and support, guiding younger peers with enthusiasm and encouragement. Their role was instrumental in keeping the energy high throughout the day.

The excitement of the students was palpable from arrival at school through to the final presentations. While the cheering and ribbons were certainly important, the carnival wasn’t just about winning; the day was a true celebration of sportspersonship, courage, and resilience. We saw children pushing themselves beyond their limits, showing grit and determination, celebrating the success of others, and encouraging those who were flagging, especially during the 800m.

We extend a huge thank you to all parents who supported the carnival, whether in the audience or as a volunteer. Your involvement helped make the day a success. To those parents who took on extra roles; we sincerely thank you for your time and effort. The canteen provided by Lucy and her team was much appreciated and we thank Shelley and Dave who collected and returned the bbq to school. Many other wonderful parents supported the events and activities in a variety of ways.

Finally, thanks to Colm who has replaced Andrea throughout Term 1. He has done an exceptional job in preparing our students for the athletics carnival, and to Kiao who generously shared his skills with our Year 3-6 students. They said they felt well prepared, especially for the field events. Thanks to Sarah for transporting the equipment, and above all to Vicky who was the calm and efficient organiser of this wonderful day.

Our Athletics Carnival was a day full of smiles and laughter, and one that we hope will provide shared stories and vibrant memories for our students in the years to come. Congratulations Hennessy!

Students should be sun smart by ensuring they have their school hat or another wide brimmed hat, and their shoulders covered. They should wearclosed toe shoes.

School finishes at 1:00pm on Friday for the term holidays. We will resume on Tuesday 22 April.  Please note that Anzac Day, 25 April is a public holiday.
