Physical Education News

It has been a great start to the year during Term 1 at CNPS. All students have put in 100% effort in cross country, the summer gala, and every PE lesson. Well done, everyone!

Next Tuesday, during the last week of Term 1, there will be a karate incursion in which all students will have the opportunity to participate in karate. We have a before-school Karate program that runs every Wednesday morning. If you would like your child to participate, please contact me (Chris) or the office for more details.

Coming up in Term 2, we have District Cross Country on Monday, 12/5/2025, and Winter Gala Day on Friday, 20/7/2025. We will be competing in three sports: soccer, netball and volleyball. Training for these sports will take place on Tuesdays after lunch during 5/6 Sport and at lunchtime.

In Term 2, students will focus on consolidating their age-appropriate fundamental motor skills to master the FMS expected for their year level by the end of the year.

Gala Day - Basketball

Kahdijah Abdulsalam

The girls’ basketball team had the chance to compete against Clarinda, Amsleigh Park and St Peters.

We played indoors, and even though it was tough, we had a blast! We didn’t win any matches but that didn’t matter. What really stood out was how we all worked together as a team and cheered each other on.

Gala Day - Cricket

Fatima Hasnat

On Friday 14th of March, the cricketers went to Princes Highway Reserve to play cricket. We had a girls’ team and a mixed team. The girls’ team played against Holy Redeemer. It was fun, but we lost. In the second game we played against Huntingdale, and we made some friends. It was fun too. We were close to winning but we lost again. The Girls' cricket team won two matches, and the mixed team won one. We all had lots of fun, and we enjoyed our time there.

In my opinion the girls’ team was excellent, and they tried their absolute best. Hopefully next year we will win more games.

The mixed basketball team competed at the summer gala. They did not win any games , but their teamwork and basketball skills improved dramatically as the day went on. Well done guys!

🥁🎵Performing Arts🎹🎤

Hello, my name is Reha, I am the Music Captain for 2025. In performing arts students learn about Drama, Dance and Music. The 5/6 students focus on drama and carefully listening to Music.

Some students are also participating in the Victorian State School Spectacular (VSSS). The students participating in the VSSS are going to South Oakleigh on 27th March to practice. It's impressive to see Keenan participate in the VSSS choir. I am super excited and cannot wait to go there.

The Foundation students are new to performing arts, but I am sure they are doing great with music. The Year 5/6s are learning how to play the Ukulele and participate in drama. It has been a fun week for CNPS performing arts.

That's our news on performing arts! It's wonderful to see kids enjoying themselves while participating in the performing arts. I hope we have even more fun next week.

Japanese Taiko Drumming

On Monday, we had a Japanese drumming incursion. I helped with the set-up, which involved a lot of equipment, including bins with tape on top and several traditional drums. When it was our turn to do the drums, each student either got a bin or a special drum. We would play different rhythms and beats and swap each time. Personally, I think the drumming was really fun to do! Thank you for reading!

Springvale Homemaker Centre Easter Art Competition

Clayton North Primary School has been invited to participate in the Springvale Homemaker Centre Easter Art Competition again this year. During Art Club, students worked on decorating some decals for an Easter sculpture which is on display now at Springvale Homemaker Centre. Led by our Art Captain Ella, students used Sharpie markers and paint dot markers to add beautiful designs. This sculpture will be on display until the 21st April and we are hoping our school community will visit the shopping centre and vote for our school by scanning the QR code in front of our sculpture.

Last year, our school was lucky enough to win the competition against three other schools. We won a $3000 shopping centre voucher which was used to purchase new iPads for students to use as part of our Art program.

We are hoping to win again, so please support us by voting!

Yayoi Kusama

Students across the school have been learning about contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama (whose work is currently exhibited at the NGV in Melbourne).

Year 5/6 students worked on their clay modelling and construction skills to create 3D sculptures inspired by Yayoi’s work. Students used, wire and foil as the armatures to support their sculptures and covered with air dry clay before adding intricate details.  Their sculptures included motifs seen in Kusama’s work such as flowers, pumpkins, mushrooms and lots of dots.

Year 3/4 students worked on their collage skills to create a collage inspired by Kusama’s flower sculptures which incorporated her signature dots and bright contrasting colours.

Year 1/2 student worked on their drawing skills to create Kusama inspired pumpkins. They learnt printing techniques which involved transferring a coloured design onto their pumpkin.
