Stay tuned for more updates on all the amazing things to come!
On the 24th of March, we had a wonderful time with the Japanese Taiko Drumming incursion! It was exciting for the 1/2 students to try their hands at the Taiko drums. They eagerly learned the basic drumming techniques, using large wooden sticks (bachi) to strike the drums with enthusiasm. The children were energized by the experience!
Students have been working hard on creating their procedural texts, focusing on using the correct text structure, layout, and language features to make their writing detailed and engaging. They learned how to structure their texts with a title, goal, materials, and steps. Throughout the process, they also emphasised the importance of punctuation, ensuring that each sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a full stop.
In the past few weeks, students have been exploring numbers and place value in depth. They have been learning to read, write, represent, compare, and order numbers. To support their learning, students have been using a wide range of concrete materials, such as counters, ten frames, paddle pop sticks, MABs, number lines, 100s charts, and more. These hands-on tools have helped them visualise numbers and their relationships. Some students were even able to partition and regroup the same number in multiple ways, demonstrating a deeper understanding of place value and number composition.
