Dear Clayton North Primary School Community

We have come to the end of Term 1. I trust that all students have had a great 10 weeks of learning, and that the school has met parents' expectations in supporting your children.

School Council

Following the nomination process, I am pleased to inform the Clayton North community that we received the exact number of nominations required to form the school council. We are so fortunate to have a community where parents are willing to be involved. A warm welcome to new members and thank you to existing members, some of whom have stepped into leadership roles: Faisal Mahnashi - President (Gr 1); Ina Ratriyana - Vice President (Gr 5/6); Mirah Mertha (Foundation/4: New); Paola Rojas Silva (Gr 5; New); Berenice L'Olive (Foundation: New); Ravi & Bharathy Saldanha (Gr 5); Phoebe and Dianna Toups Dugas (Gr 5); Sean Taylor (DET: New); Josie Burt (DET). Please feel free to see any school council member regarding a school or student issue.

Mentors & Volunteers

We are incredibly lucky to have two major connections that have a positive impact on student outcomes - Kid's Hope and EdConnect. The relationship with Kid's Hope is entering its 19th year with CNPS whilst EdConnect's association has been more recent. However, both organisations deliver valuable mentoring and volunteering that has massive benefits to our children and programs. Mentors and volunteers are vetted and trained by their respective organisations before they begin at the school, and they are also provided an induction onsite.

Kid's Hope mentors are paired with students who have been identified by their teachers as children who could benefit from the weekly one-on-one mentoring, and have their parent's consent to participate. The focus for the session depends on the needs of the child, and may include activities such as playing different games, solving puzzles, cooking, etc. Children look forward to the sessions with their mentors and they have grown in confidence from being treated to an hour of undivided attention from an adult who shows up each week without fail.

The EdConnect volunteers also attend for at least one hour each week, some for two hours, and another works in the library for a whole day. Volunteers are allocated to a classroom and take guidance from the teacher, and often work with a group of students supporting them in their classroom work. Volunteers range from university students to semi-retired professionals, who simply want the opportunity to have a positive impact on the next generation of young adults.

EdConnect chose to do a promotional photo shoot at our school today. We look forward to sharing the pictures and articles with families and on our website in the near future.

School Uniform

As you are aware, we have updated our school logo on our website, the digital sign, and on all correspondence. School uniforms are being manufactured using our new school logo and there will be a transition period as we get the whole school on board. You may find that the uniform stock at PSW is low, and items in particular sizes may not be available. We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing families. We thank you for your patience and  hope to inform you very soon that all sizes are back in stock!

In the meantime, there will be a second-hand uniform sale in the hall next Thursday at 3pm. This is a great opportunity to get a school jacket as the weather gets cooler.

Harmony Day celebrations

This year, Harmony Week was to have been celebrated last week. To support the members of our community who are fasting this month, at Clayton North, we will be celebrating this Harmony Day next Friday after the Islamic holy month. Children can wear their traditional costumes for the day. The festivities will include a shared lunch at 11.30am, performances from 1pm, and an early dismissal at 2.30pm. All families are invited to attend from 1pm.

Wishing all families a safe and enjoyable break.
