Year 7 Cricket Team Shows Grit and Team Spirit in Sale Matches

The Year 7 cricket team took to the field in Sale under fine conditions, ready to showcase their skills and determination. Their first game was against Kurnai, and Maffra started in the field for a 10-over innings. Kurnai put up a solid total of 3/46, with Maffra’s bowlers putting in a strong effort. The standout performer was Logan Powell, who delivered an exceptional spell, taking 2 wickets for just 2 runs, including a brilliant moment where he broke the stumps.

In response, Maffra chased down the target with composure, reaching the winning runs with two overs to spare. The highlight of the batting innings was Kodi Ratten, who top-scored and guided the team to victory.

With the first win secured, Maffra advanced to the Grand Final match against CCS. CCS won the toss and started strong, setting a high tempo in the opening overs. However, their momentum was halted when Levi Veenstra turned the game on its head in the third over, taking two quick wickets. This breakthrough triggered a middle-order collapse, with Lachie Marshall and Rex Elliott delivering key bowling spells. The fielding effort was equally impressive, featuring a series of outstanding catches from Kodi Ratten, Rex Elliott, and a stunning caught-and-bowled moment from Lachie Marshall. CCS managed to post a total of 104 from their 15 overs.

Maffra’s innings got off to a shaky start, with early wickets falling in quick succession. Despite the challenges, Rex Hamilton showed resilience, staying at the crease from the start and finishing as the team’s top scorer with 4 runs before being the final wicket to fall. Though Maffra fell short of the target making only 25 runs in reply, the team displayed admirable teamwork, sportsmanship, and unwavering support for one another throughout the competition.

Well done to all the players who pulled on the pads and gave their all on the field. Their effort, encouragement, and camaraderie made for an exciting and memorable day of cricket!
