School Council wrap March 2025

The Annual General Meeting for School Council was held on the 24th of March and a new council formed for 2025.

There was a changing of the guard with two long serving teachers stepping down. Cheryl Evans retired after 15 years on council and Carol Caffrey retired after 12 years. Both tremendous contributions. Long serving members are hard to come by. They have so much knowledge about the history of the school and the council itself which can be invaluable at times.

Stepping into the shoes of the retiring teachers are Elise Westphalen, who takes on Cheryl’s Assistant Principal role next term and Emma Daymond who works in the front office and also has children at the school.

Megan Grumley has joined as a parent representative and Alannah McInnes as the year 10 student representative. All other members remain. Marisa Huts remains Vice President and I remain President.

The school annual report for 2024 was presented by Principal Jennifer Roep for approval by council. There were many positive highlights from last year and many of the four year strategic plan goals were met a year earlier. This is quite unusual as most schools do not meet their strategic plan goals at all. This is a real reflection of the hard work and dedication of the teaching staff, the principal team and particularly the students. This report will be presented to the school community once it is approved by the Department of Education.

The Annual report also identifies some things that need to be improved such as NAPLAN, however the work the school does to ensure student growth between Year 7 and 9 is at or above the State average is strong. We discussed the level of reading and numeracy skills students are coming into school with at Year 7. Attendance is a concern for the school with the increasing number of absences students have and it was good to hear from parents about some processes that can be put in place to improve these things and it will be interesting to see how they change over time.
