Message from the Principal

Week 9&10 Term 1 2025
Dear CNPS Families
Thank you! What a productive Term 1 for all concerned at Carlton North Primary School. The staff of CNPS are incredibly proud of every student. It has been wonderful to see routines established, new friendships created, and students focussed on their learning and wellbeing. As Term 1 draws to a close and the weary legs set in, I often think this is a good indicator of how hard everyone has worked throughout the term.
Term One Highlights
Connecting Foundation Families - Welcome Morning
Swimming carnivals (CNPS, district, division and regional)
Meet the Teacher Meetings
School Photos
Year 3 and 5 NAPLAN
Great Lee Street Fete
Digital Technology Workshops
School Council
Last Wednesday 26 March 2025 the new school council met for the first time. We welcomed Charlie Perry, Clare London and James Barnard (staff member) to their first meeting. The start of a new school council also sees all office bearer positions declared vacant and nominations sought to fill these positions. I would like to congratulate the following councillors who have been appointed to the below positions for 2025:
President – Rebecca Slater
Vice President – Henry Tinsley
Treasurer – Clare London
On behalf of school council, I would like to acknowledge and thank three outgoing councillors, Marcus Lau, Rebecca Kelly and Millie Holden (staff member) for their expertise, enthusiasm and strong advocacy for CNPS. We are incredibly grateful for your service.
Financial Assistance For Families
It is important that every student, regardless of their circumstances, has the best possible chance to reach their potential. There are several ways that eligible families can seek financial assistance for school expenses, including:
- Camps Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF)
- State Schools' Relief
- Child Care Benefit and Family Assistance
Further information regarding Financial Assistance for Families is available at these links:
CSEF

I encourage any parent/carer who has questions regarding financial assistance for school related matters, to contact the office.
CNPS School Values
Resilience
Resilience is what allows us to bounce back from the changes and challenges we face in our daily life. It is one of the most important and enduring personal challenges. Students at CNPS engage in regular conversations about the importance of resilience and how it shapes our learning and wellbeing.
Trust
Trust is an important value at CNPS. Trust is earnt when a firm and consistent connection is made and authentic relationships are formed. Trust is about developing a sense of safety and security where students feel they can speak up and be believed.
Professional Learning
Principal Induction Series
Throughout Term 1 as a newly appointed Principal, I have been attending induction sessions that assist me in undertaking my role as Principal of Carlton North Primary School. The induction series has supported the development of my technical, systematic and human leadership. I am enjoying my role as Principal and look forward to the challenges and successes that lie ahead.
Building Project Update
As I have been sharing in recent weeks, the tender process for both the roof maintenance project and the modernisation and building upgrade are underway. Both tender programs are scheduled to close during the holiday period. Awarding of contractors for the respective projects will be announced early in Term 2. During the holidays portable classrooms will be moved on-site in readiness for the main building project. TeamKids vacation care program will operate as normal. The TeamKids staff will ensure appropriate student safety during the delivery of the portables on-site. It is important that students not attending TeamKids vacation care (where adult supervision is in place) abstain from entering CNPS during the portable installation works.
Eid al-Fiter
Eid al-Fiter is a special time for members of our community. Eid al-Fiter is also known as ‘festival of breaking the fast’ and is a significant celebration in Islam. We hope all our students and families had a special time across Sunday 30 March - Monday 31 March 2025 and enjoyed time to celebrate as a community.
Thank You
As we come to the end of a busy and productive Term 1, can I please acknowledge and thank my colleagues for all their hard work. The amazing Education Support team – thank you for all your efforts throughout Term 1. Our dedicated and experienced teachers for your professional guidance of students in their learning and wellbeing. Finally, my leadership colleagues, Jane, Erin and Trish, thank you for your support and diligent work this term.
I hope all families have an amazing break and we look forward to welcoming back students on Tuesday 22 April 2025.
Warm Regards
Matthew Ferguson
