From the 1 & 2 Classrooms

It was wonderful to feel the buzz around the Grade One and Two classrooms, and wider school community, last Friday afternoon as the Expos took place.
In the weeks leading up to the Expo, students had been exploring the Integrated unit, Managing Self. They learnt about being an effective self-manager, strategies to help manage strong emotions, giving, seeking and denying consent as well as learning how to manage conflict in different situations.
As a culmination of this learning, students were asked to create a character who was experiencing a problem. Students demonstrated their new knowledge by thinking about how that character might be feeling, what they might be doing and saying.
As part of the task, students were also asked to write a letter of advice to their character. The letter needed to include strategies that their character could try when experiencing the problem.
The final element of the task was for students to design a sign which would remind their character what they might say to themselves when faced with the problem.
This was a valuable unit to explore in Term 1 as students are establishing new connections, developing friendships and embarking on new learning challenges.
Thank you to those families who could attend the Expo. The level of excitement and sense of pride in our Grade One and Two students, and teachers, was special to witness.
Wishing all our families a safe and relaxing term break.
