Principal Report

Our school is located on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.

Easter

At the end of the school holidays many in our community will be observing Easter. Whilst for lots of our students Easter is about chocolate eggs and rabbits, it is an important time in the Christian calendar. This festival celebrates Jesus rising from the dead, three days after he was excecuted. For some in our community they will be involved in services and activities relating to Palm Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

There are many different Easter traditions leading up to and including the days of Easter. Some of our families will be dying red eggs, cooking traditional food and attending church services.

Some families will be eating hot cross buns and having egg hunts.

Some families will have attended services on Ash Wednesday at the start of Lent -  six weeks prior to Easter. They will also have chosen something to abstain from for the 40 days of Lent.

Many of these traditions are designed to remind those observing about suffering and sacrifice, about new life and rebirth.

We wish everyone a Happy Easter in all the many ways that they celebrate in our community.

Ramadan

Those in our community who have been observing Ramadan will have enjoyed Eid al-Fitr - known as the festival of the breaking of the fast as it comes right after the Holy Month of Ramadan. March 31st was the first full day of celebrations, with family and friends coming together for prayer and food.

TheirCare - Thank you Mimi!

We have been so fortunate to have Mimi with us as coordinator of TheirCare.

Mimi has exciting news - she has been successful in gaining her dream job as a visual art/textiles/digital art teacher.  As much as she loves working with our students it is an amazing opportunity for her. She starts in her new job on the first day of Term 2. She will be working in the holiday program so your children will have the opportunity to say goodbye.

I wanted to thank Mimi for making such a welcoming and exciting space for our students. She has created a program that caters to their needs and which allows them to have input. In each newsletter we are provided with an insight into the program - there is always lots to see.

We will miss her!

We wish her all the best in her new career!

TheirCare have started the process of finding a new coordinator and will have someone in place until they find a permanent coordinator.

Alana's Army

This coming Sunday April 6th is the Run for the Kids event to support the Royal Children's Hospital. Our school community has gotten involved with Alana's Army through donations and being part of the team running and walking this Sunday. We are so proud of your support for Alana Wickham and her parents Phil and Laura. The Army has raised $13,000. If you would like to donate follow this link - Alana's Army

We hope everyone has a great time on Sunday and look forward to seeing photos!

We are excited that our Instagram page has some great new posts. Be sure to follow @BoroondaraPark to see all that is happening at school.

Neurodiversity

It has been great to have three families volunteer to support others in the community by sharing their experiences of accessing support, diagnosis and advocating for their childs needs at school. If you have questions and wonderings we would like to link families, build relationships and our collective knowledge and skill. Please reach out to Shannon or myself to make connections.

If you would like to offer support about your experiences please let us know and we will add you to our group.

Canteen

The canteen at BPPS is run by an outside provider, with lunch orders available each day and over the counter sales each recess and most lunchtimes. To keep this service we need to use it.

Don't forget you can order lunches online using My School Connect.

Students can bring money to spend over the counter at recess and lunchtime.

Attendance

As a school our core objective is to ensure we support the learning and wellbeing of all students, to enable them to thrive.

Why is attendance important?

  • Regular attendance is essential to support every child’s learning and wellbeing. Absences from school may pose a potential risk to a child’s safety.
  • An effective whole school approach to improving attendance requires commitment from every member of the school community.
  • School leadership is essential to setting high expectations for attendance.
  • All staff have important roles and responsibilities in creating an engaging and inclusive environment and supporting students to attend school every day.

Research shows that school communities that focus on continuous improvement within a tiered system of support experience the most significant improvement in student attendance.

As term draws to a close a reminder has been sent home to those with absences which are unexplained. We currently have 177 unexplained absences for Term 1. We aim to have no unexplained absences. We look forward to your support to get us back to zero!

We have worked through our attendance reports for this term, identifying significant absences and we will be monitoring the attendance of a number of students carefully next term.

Please reach out to the school if you are having issues with school refusal or anything else which might be stopping your child attending school.

Easter colouring competition

Congratulations to Elise and Zach who attended Jess Wilson's afternoon tea for winners on Monday. Elise was the winner for BPPS and Zach was runner up for BPPS.

Where do we come from?

We would love to have more! As a school community we want the opportunity to celebrate who we are. We would love all families to take the time to share their family history.

Where do you come from?
